Last night, Hollywood's elite gathered at the Century Plaza Hotel to celebrate the 27th annual Critics Choice awards. Hosted by Nicole Byers and Taye Diggs, the star-studded event recognized a year’s worth of film and television projects.

This year director Jane Campion won Best Picture for her film The Power of The Dog, starring Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and Benedict Cumberbatch. Campion's western-drama also won the Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Picture categories.

During one of her many acceptance speeches Campion said, “It’s absolutely stunning to be here tonight among so many incredible women,” then she proceeded to acknowledge her peers. First, was actress Halle Berry, who later won the SeeHer award for her contributions to the film industry. Then Campion mentioned the Williams sisters, who were in attendance to celebrate King Richard, a biopic about their inspiring life-story, which stars Will Smith as their father.

“Venus and Serena, you’re such marvels,” Campion said. “But you don’t play against the guys, like I have to.” Though the comment was laughed off by the ceremony’s audience, viewers at home criticized Campion on Twitter for comparing their careers to her own.

Later in the evening, Smith won best actor for his role in King Richard and used his speech to recognize the Williams’ family legacy. “Thank you for entrusting me with your story,” he said. “What your family was able to do inspired everyone in this room, everyone in this country, and everyone around the world. You all define the American Dream.”

The rest of the ceremony was rounded out by celebrating a myriad of accomplishments ranging from Best Actress to Best Production Design. Look below for the full list of winners.
