During the winter months we’re all about musky, woody fragrances that remind us of fireside chats and hot chocolate. Why smell like a peach when you look like a marshmallow? But when it comes to summer, the knits come off and the scents go on! After six months of smelling like a grandma, all I want to feel like while standing in the sun is Miss Hawaiian Tropic. Many fragrance brands have caught on to the clothes-off, scents-on logic, and launch special edition perfumes for the summer sniffers looking for the next big thing.Among this summer’s special releases are Burberry Summer, ck one summer, and Clinique Happy Summer Spray--all sparkly, pink-packaged re-toolings of the year-round fragrances we love. We’re also looking forward to sprtizing on some of Prada’s new scent Prada Candy L’eau, the bubblier partner to Prada Candy, while invoking the spirit of Lea Seydoux (who munches on popcorn in the perfume’s ad directed by Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola--if you haven’t seen it yet, consider it required reading for the summer). Marc Jacobs is rolling out a new smell too, Marc Jacobs Honey, a sweet scent that comes packaged in a polka dot globe adorned with little striped bees.
If you’re not looking for something new, try out these mainstays of the fragrance shelves perfectly suited to poolside partying. Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue is a lemony scent with bright notes, and Bond No. 9′s Andy Warhol Montauk is a hyacinth dream that will make you feel like Edie Sedgwick partying into the wee hours of morning. A personal fave is Jo Malone’s French Lime Blossom cologne. I didn’t even know lime trees had flowers before buying this perfume, but I can guarantee you they smell like heaven on earth.
