Anne Hathaway Brings The Weird In The First Trailer For ‘Colossal’

You need to see it to believe it

At last fall's Toronto Film Festival, one movie in particular really brought the weird and sparked the curiosity of both audiences and critics alike. It's called Colossal, and thanks to the just-released first trailer, we finally get a chance to see why it's likely to become one of the most talked about movies of the year.

Directed by Nacho Vigalondo, the sci-fi dramedy stars Anne Hathaway as an aimless woman named Gloria, who ditches New York for the comfort of her hometown. When news breaks that a Godzilla-like creature is terrorizing Seoul, South Korea, Gloria begins to realize that the foreign beast might just be her controlled by her. No, really.

While a quirky indie starring Hathaway as a monster whisperer might sound like a tough sell, critics have fallen for Vigalondo's bold vision, and for Hathaway's surprising performance. Allison Wilmore of Buzzfeed called it "a surprisingly deft story about a particular type of toxic masculinity," while Tom Huddleston of TimeOut called it "determinedly bizarre, psychologically inquisitive and in the end rather wonderful."

In other words, see Colossal when it storms into theaters on April 7. For now, watch the trailer above.
