bad girl basics
tough girls finish first.
You don't have to act bad to get in on the bad girl trend that has been turning good gals to the dark side all summer, like Selena Gomez and Ashley Benson in Spring Breakers or Miley Cyrus in her naughty new music video. The only thing you need to steal is their style. Rebels with causes from the past have some of the best wardrobes we'd love to raid too, from the criminally cool Bonnie Parker and socialite-turned-bandit Patty Hearst to rockers like Debbie Harry, Kim Gordon, and Courtney Love.
Looking tough is not just all about a leather jacket, though that is a crucial part. There are tons of musts for a successful girl on the run: You'll need aviator sunnies to blend in with the cops, a good pair of combat boots for kicking butt (or running away, when need be), and, of course, a can't-touch-this shade of red lipstick. A good piece of bling for your punching hand can't hurt either. Well, it can't hurt you, at least.
Just make sure your naughty streak doesn't end with you in the slammer like Piper Chapman, the heroine of Netflix's new series Orange is the New Black (whose first season lands online today), if for no other reason than that an orange jumpsuit isn't a cool look. Like Elle Woods always said, "Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed."
