The Trailer For The ‘Charmed’ Reboot Has Arrived

Unite the power of three… again

The CW is losing Jane The Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, but it’s gaining the new Charmed reboot this fall.

The network gave fans a first look at the show centering on three sister witches played by a new trio of non-white actresses. Madeleine Mantock (Macy), Melonie Diaz (Mel), and Sarah Jeffrey (Maggie) are the 2018 version of the 1998 Halliwell sisters (now the Vera sisters), though their story differs a bit from the original. Following the death of their mother, they realize they have supernatural powers, which they use to fight demons while also, according to the original description, “tearing down the patriarchy.”

The show has been touted as a “fierce, funny, feminist” reboot, which didn’t sit well with original cast members Shannen Doherty and Holly Marie Combs. Their issue lies in the fact that the wording seems to imply that the original was none of those things. When one fan wrote that she’s excited Charmed is getting the recognition it deserves and they should be excited about this milestone, Doherty relented a bit. “Im intrigued by the idea that a new generation might be comforted, inspired like all you were,” she wrote. “Charmed helped us all in some way.”

Maybe the trailer will sway them? Watch it, below.
