CMJ BAND CRUSH: TRISTEN
we’ve got her single here!
Look under the "information" page on Tristen's website, and you'll have a hard time finding background info on the Nashville singer. Instead of talking about herself, Tristen recounts the ancient story of doomed lovers Tristan and Isolde.
But despite what you might think, Tristen's songs aren't much about pining after boys- trust us, her seemingly sweet tracks are way deeper than that. Just listen to "Matchstick Murder" and "Special Kind of Fear," and you'll find a darker, gritter edge underneath their sugary exterior. The 26-year-old Chicago native impressively combines diverse influences into her sound, from Jewel-style vocals, to '50s pop melodies, to a slight country twang.
Tristen's debut album, Charlatans at the Garden Gate, won't be out until next year, but we have a sneak preview.
