CupcakKe Celebrates The LGBTQIA Community In “Crayons” Video

This is a treat

Full disclosure: The first time I heard CupcakKe's "Crayons," I shed a tear or two. At the time, I didn't realize she had released her new album, Ephorize, (which is very good!), and was operating on Spotify's new music release playlist. "Crayons" was an unexpected joyride, one I didn't expect to be so uplifting and empowering. I love me some filthy CupcaKke, but political CupcakKe is divine.

At its most basic, "Crayons" is a no-frills LGBTQIA anthem. Its message is simple: "Like who the fuck you like" and "fuck the world." Over a booty-bouncing horn beat, Miss Marilyn MonHOE raps about equal rights and how the LGBTQIA community is the maker and keeper of culture. The video, too, isn't veiled in metaphor or symbolism. It's a straight-up celebration of queer identity in the middle of the sidewalk, where anyone and everyone is invited. The Pride Flag makes a triumphant cameo. CupcaKke's legendary status is minted with this one.

Watch it, below, and feel the joy.
