31 Days of DIY Denim: Day 5, Denim iPhone Case

Check out today’s project

by Hawa Bello

NYLON staffers created unique, DIY projects using denim in honor of our annual Denim Issue. Check back here every day of August to see a new project.

What you'll need:

Clear iPhone case

Pen

Jeans (used or new)

Heavy-duty Scissors

Denim fringe

Hot glue

Mini denim pockets (from jeans above or another pair)

Velcro tape

Stickers (optional)

Safety pins (optional)

Directions:

Step 1: Take your clear iPhone case and trace it with a pen on the denim jeans. Cut out the trace with scissors and make four more copies. (You should have a total of five cutouts in the shape of the iPhone case)

Step 2: Take the denim fringe and hot glue around the first denim cutout. Using the hot glue, use the second cutout to cover the back of the first cutout. You now have the first side made.

Step 3: Repeat this setup for cutout three and four. You now have created the second side.

Step 4: Using hot glue, stick the pockets to the inside of the cutouts.

Step 5: Hot glue cutout five to connect both side one and two.

Step 6: You don't want your iPhone to fall out so you have to secure the opening with Velcro tape. Cut about three inches from the Velcro tape and hot glue inside side two. Cover outside of the Velcro tape with denim.

Step 7: Cut about one inch of Velcro tape and hot glue inside of side one.

Step 8: Optional: Add stickers, safety pins, and denim belt loops to decorate the case.
