first look: the divergent sequel is here

In the Insurgent book, Shailene Woodley’s character Tris ends up chopping her hair to a chin-length bob, as a defiant move to get rid of her old, sheltered self. When she reprised her role in the trilogy, Shailene Woodley said that she didn’t want to wear a wig, especially with all the running/jumping/shooting, etc. So, the producers let her keep her short, cropped pixie as a part of the character, even though it clearly deviates from the book. (Which, as much as we love Shai’s amazing short ‘do, Tris’ shiny, spring-y ponytail was, like, our favorite character in the film.)

Aside from a major hair switch-up, The Divergent Series finally debuted images of the Insurgent cast in an awesome, embeddable 3-D format. Everyone looks particularly threatening and ready for battle, including Four (the incredibly delectable Theo James) and the always awesome Christina (our girl Zoe Kravitz). Filming has mostly wrapped on the middle entry of the series, which means that, while Hunger Games‘ madness is reaching fever pitch, Insurgent’s is just about to kick off. See the main cast below…
