Chloë Sevigny And Kristen Stewart Are Secret Lovers In This Chilling New Trailer

‘Lizzie’ will offer a reimagined look at the story of Lizzie Borden

by Sandra Song

Opening with a blood-curdling scream, the trailer for Roadside Flix's Lizzie is terrifying from the get-go.

In 1892, Lizzie Borden became the main suspect in the brutal ax murders of her parents Andrew and Abby Borden. Though she was eventually acquitted, Borden's name has continued to live in infamy; she has since become a fixture in pop culture, inspiring plays, ballets, and band names—not to mention a well-known nursery rhyme. However, director Craig William Macneill’s Lizzie offers a reimagined look at the chilling story. Featuring Chloë Sevigny as Borden, Lizzie zooms in on her romantic relationship with the family maid, Bridget Sullivan, played by Kristen Stewart.

Sullivan, who has been the subject of many theories, was the only other person at home when the murders occurred and testified at Borden's trial. As described by Variety's review, the story explores the speculation that Borden and Sullivan were secret lovers in a world rife with repression, exploitation, and patriarchal abuse.

Lizzie is set to premiere in theaters on September 14. Watch the trailer for the film, below.
