Nicola Formichetti Is Teaming Up With M.A.C On A Line Of Cosmetics
We catch up with the designer to get the scoop
We’ve been fans of streetwear label Nicopanda, the Kawaii-inspired unisex brainchild of fashion icon Nicola Formichetti, since it first launched back in 2011. Naturally, when we found out that Formichetti is expanding the line to include cosmetics, we started freaking out about all of the colorful possibilities to come.
After a successful collab with Urban Outfitters that launched late last year, Formichetti has now teamed up with the makeup giant to launch a bold line of beauty products that embody the Nicopanda brand. It’s a little bit punk, a little bit Kawaii, and bursting with color. “Beauty and cosmetics are a huge part of my process when creating a look or a collection, so I’m always playing around with makeup. Having my own beauty line is really a dream come true,” Formichetti told us.
The collection is comprised of your usual suspects: lipsticks and gloss, brushes, a highlighting face powder, and eyeshadow and blush palettes—but, of course, in all of the unconventional shades you would expect from a brand like Nicopanda. Mint lipstick, iridescent navy gloss, and teal-accented false lashes are just a few of the bold products you’ll find in the offering.
The collection also includes a pack of Kawaii-inspired stickers, encouraged to be worn on the face.
When it comes to makeup, for us it's all about self-expression and having fun—the same holds true for the designer and the Nicopanda customer. “For me, beauty is about creativity, freedom, and fun,” says Formichetti. “It can be the most simple and natural look or something totally over-the-top and crazy—it’s an opportunity to both empower and express.”
Is this a one-time-only special project or will we be seeing more M.A.C x Nicopanda in the future? “Stay tuned,” says Formichetti.
