The xx’s “I Dare You” Video Is The Best Calvin Klein Ad Ever

Starring Millie Bobby Brown and Paris Jackson

by Ben Barna

Calvin Klein has produced some of the most iconic ads of all time. But the xx just released what might be the best Calvin Klein ad ever, in the form of their video for “I Dare You.” The project was made in collaboration with CK chief creative officer Raf Simons, who outfitted the cast in head-to-toe Calvin and worked with photographer and filmmaker Alasdair McLellan to develop the look and feel of the clip. That cast includes Millie Bobby Brown, who opens the video by missing her bus and ends it by breaking down into tears and sobbing. In between, there’s a lot of beautiful photography of L.A. homes, CK models Lulu and Ernesto Cervantes looking happy and in love, and ditto for Paris Jackson and Moonlight star Ashton Sanders. Everyone in the cast has appeared in Calvin Klein ads in the past, to underscore the level of collaboration.

This is the third video that McLellan has made for the xx’s latest album, I See You, with each one being a love letter to the various cities the album was recorded in. “On Hold” was an ode to Marfa, Texas, while “Say Something Loving” focused on London. The band called the video “our love letter to Los Angeles, a city close to our hearts, where we wrote and recorded parts of our album I See You. This is the third video our friend, the wonderful Alasdair McLellan, has directed for us. He collaborated with a hero of ours Raf Simons, on the creative concept and direction. It was amazing to work with both of them and such a pleasure to meet and work with Millie, Paris, Ashton, Lulu and Ernesto.”

With her appearance in Sigma’s “Find Me” video last year, it looks like Brown has found a second career in getting very emotional in music videos. Watch the clip above.
