Come On, America, It’s Time To Register To Vote

#OurVoteCounts

by Kristin Iversen

It's been less than a century since American women were first afforded the right to vote in this country, and while there's little doubt that we've come a long way since then, women's issues are still among the most hotly debated topics in our current political cycle. Think about it: Healthcare, equal pay, reproductive freedoms, paid parental leave... all of these issues directly affect the way women in this country conduct their lives and plan for their futures. It is more important than ever for American women to realize that the stakes in 2016 are high and that in order to make sure that we continue to have a voice in our political process, we must use our voices now.

And how do we do that? We vote. Simply put, women are an essential voting bloc in this country, and young women, in particular, can make a difference by turning out and casting their ballots. The Center for American Women and Politics reports that while 64 percent of eligible women voted in the 2012 election, only 45 percent of women 18 to 24 marked their ballots. We can do better. We must do better. This is our future on the line.

And because NYLON takes this future very seriously, we've joined together with more than 50 major women's media brands in an unprecedented effort with Rock the Vote to register women to vote and demonstrate how powerful we are when we say what's on our minds. (Very.)

The best part of this whole thing? It's just gotten a whole lot easier to register to vote. Just use the handy registration tool below, and before you know it, you'll be all set to exercise your right to vote this November 8. Just remember #OurVoteCounts and we have no doubt we're all going to rock it.
