Robert James is New York’s most recent gift to fashion; the designer has been emerging from a burgeoning local scene that works with one eye on the fashion world and one eye down the street. James draws on a variety of cultural influences, from what you see on the streets of Florence to Manhattan as well as from the photo archives of old Hollywood to the New York Times. The man doesn’t bring something back into the spotlight; he subtly places it there. His most recent endeavour is this three-piece grey and white pin cord short suit: a jacket, vest, and shorts. The jacket features contrasting white buttons and three front patch pockets. The vest has three small welt pockets and the shorts are grey and white. Plain and simple.
