Javier Bardem’s Hair Is The Star Of The New ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’ Trailer
Meanwhile, Johnny Depp is nowhere to be found.
The first thing you notice about the new trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is that Johnny Depp is conspicuously absent. Captain Jack Sparrow shows up only briefly—in the form of a drawn wanted poster, and you might wonder why that is. If you’re a conspiracy theorist, then maybe the studio is trying to keep Depp away from its marketing push until the bad taste from his messy divorce from Amber Heard wears off. Or maybe everyone is already so familiar with Captain Jack that the point of this teaser for the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean is to introduce the movie’s new blood.
That includes Brenton Thwaites, an up-and-coming Australian actor who assumes the Orlando Bloom role as the good-hearted eye candy who presumably puts up with Sparrow’s antics so they can defeat a supernatural baddie. That baddie goes by the name of Captain Salazar and is played by Javier Bardem, who continues his streak of playing villains with oddly terrifying haircuts. Salazar’s CGI mane of floating, tangled hair is even more menacing than Anton Chigurh’s bowl cut and Raoul Silva’s peroxide blonde hair. Apparently, he’s after something called the Trident of Poseidon, which will give him the power to kill every pirate at sea, allowing them to tell no tales.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales sails into theaters on May 26.
