SAFETY FIRST

did you hear they got pinned?

by ali hoffman

Last season, the exposed zipper conquered the fashion world, popping up everywhere from the bottoms of our black leggings to that Alexander Wang leather bag we tried to score on sale.

This season, it looks like the safety pin will usurp the zipper, as fashion's most popular garment device to come out of hiding.

Yes, we know, the punky looped-shaped pin has made a couple cameos in past years (i.e. Genevieve Jones' diamond-studded safety pin earrings or pretty much any piece from Vena Cava's spring 2010 collection).  But unlike past endeavors, the recent influx of the safety pin trend appears to forgo function altogether, making it more comparable to skulls or cat prints than zippers.

Check out our favorites below and, who knows, maybe we'll be discussing buckles in the spring.
