beauty queen: solange

get her mermaid makeup, without looking straight out of the ’80s.

Brightly-colored eyeshadow gets a bad rap, and sometimes it's admittedly deserved. But not always, and Solange is proof that a statement-making glittery green shadow can be classier than you'd think. The singer has been everywhere this season during New York Fashion Week, but it's her look at Wes Gordon's runway show that really stuck in our brains. The key? Keeping it simple. Paired with a striped blouse and au naturale hair, who needs anything else when you've got an eyeshadow this bold? So forget all of those awkward '80s flashbacks (or prom makeup-gone-wrong memories)  and see her secrets below.

1. SHIMMER IT: Stila Foils Finish Eyeshadow in Metallic Emerald- $32

Definitely not your average run-of-the-mill metallic shadow, this Stila pot also comes with a liquid primer that you mix with the shadow to make it last. Dab it all over your lid, but props if you decide to take a cue from Solange and go up toward the brow bone and past the edges, too.

2. SWIPE IT: L'Oreal Paris Double Extend Mascara- $10.79

Coat your top and bottom lashes just once for Solange's longer-than-long effect.

3. MOISTURIZE IT: Maybelline BabyLips- $4.49

You don't need an intense lip, so just add a layer of this super easy, moisturizing balm, and you're good to go!
