Watch The New Music Video From WeDidIt’s Swan Lingo

“Fidelity” is all you need

by Sydney Gore

If you're familiar with Shlohmo's dope collective WeDidIt, then you should recognize Swan Lingo. The Washington, D.C. bred artist is the label's newest signee, and he's bringing a fresh sound loaded with good vibes that could only be harnessed from the DMV. (His name even came to him while he was working as a dishwasher at Cafe Ole in Richmond, Virginia.) As a resident of D.C., Lingo has always been influenced by go-go music, which might explain why some of his inspirations include Dean Blunt, Blood Orange, Wild Nothing, Lotus Plaza, and the Cocteau Twins.

Today, we are premiering the susdante-directed music video for "Fidelity." (Fortunately, Lingo's team was able to finish shooting everything after being warned to stop by the mall cops three times.) The track is featured on Lingo's debut EP Spirit Plugwhich he says is "based on a heartbreak period of my life, and the EP was my way of expressing that emotion."

Lingo describes his style as "serenading the track on rap beats," as he wavers between rapping and singing. "I'm very passionate about capturing a feeling and creating a song that can express that feeling," he adds.

His initial foray into music began during his childhood when his mother signed him up for African drumming classes. Eventually, this training led him to start rapping in his teens, and he went on to form the crew PORTAL BOYZ. As fate would have it, he connected with WeDidIt on the internet and "everything's been love since day one."

The next step for Lingo is sharing his music with the world by taking the opportunity to travel and continuing to make music for his "wonderful fans." We're sure he'll get there in due time. For now, watch his latest visual in the footage, below.
