THE REMIX: SONIA KASHUK

makeup gets a makeover.

by ali hoffman

The terms "makeover" usually refers to a new haircut, maybe an outfit or two, and, of course, a little makeup. But what happens when it's not a person getting the make over, it's the actual makeup itself. Enter Sonia Kashuk's spring 2013 collection, available exclusively at Target. The massive range of totally revamped boasts luxe moisture tinted lip balms in chic matte black packaging, an amazing line of creme bronzers in shiny rose gold compacts, four monochrome eyeshadow quads featuring hues that actually look great together, and that's just the start of it. The entire collection just hit Target,T so we figured we'd make it a little less overwhelming and tell you our favorites from the range.

The Inspiration: Jessica Alba's Beauty Queen-worthy look

Products Used From Collection: Sonia Kashuk Monochrome Eye Quad in Cocoa, Sonia Kashuk Chic Luminosity Bronzer/Blush Duo in Glimmer, Sonia Kashuk Chic Luminosity Highlighter Stick in Sparkling Sands, Sonia Kashuk Moisture Luxe Tinted Lip Balm in Hint of Berry

The Process:Since I am far from the bronzed babe that Jessica Alba is--you could say I'm towards the pasty end of the spectrum--I had to rely on a few beauty tools to help give me a glowing look. After brushing a blend of the bronzer/blush duo along my cheekbone, I then applied the highlighter between my cheek and under eye, along the bridge of my nose, and on my chin to appear both bronzed and dewy. After lining my eyes with three of the shadows in the quad (the matte on my lid, the shimmer along my crease, and the glitter along my lash line), I put on the piece de resistance: the just-a-hint-of-berry lip balm.

Collection Must Have: The Moisture Luxe Tinted Lip Balmbecause it actually gives your lips color without drying them out. I have literally worn this every single day since I first tested it out, and am eyeing the other three colors (at under $9 a pop, you can't blame me).

The Inspiration: '90s grunge Products Used From Collection: Monochrome Eye Quad Palette in Taupe, Highlighter, Lipstick in Hint of Coral

The Process: I wanted to go super light on the makeup this time. First I used the eye color in the top left corner as an eyeliner on the bottom lid. Then I used the bottom left color all over the lid and the other two shades in the crease. I used a plain black powder liner along my top lid and then one coat of mascara. I used a small amount of highlighter on my cheeks--just enough to pick up the light.

Collection Must Have: The Highlighter--it's way more subtle than blush, but gets the same job done.

Products Used From Collection: Sonia Kashuk Chic Luminosity Bronzer/Blush Duo in 'Glisten', Sonia Kashuk Chic Luminosity Highlighter Stick in 'Persian Sunset', Sonia Kashuk Monochrome Eye Quad in 'Textured Mauve'

The Process: First, I took a bronzing brush and swirled it in the Bronzer/Blush Duo. I applied this to my cheekbones for a day-at-the-beach glow. Next, I dabbed the Highlighter Stick along the top of my cheeks. Finally, I took my brush to the Eye Quad and spread a light coating of the non-shimmer mauve across my eyelids. I then mixed two of the lighter, shimmering shades along my inner eye

Collection Must Have: The Chic Luminosity Bronzer/Blush Duo in 'Glisten' - I'm usually a bronzer girl rather than blush, but I found this product a really nice way to incorporate some color into my look. The texture of this duo is more dewy than powdery, so it felt hydrating and created a lovely pigmentation.
