Will Smith Meets Death, Time, And Love In New Trailer ‘Collateral Beauty’

Just in time for the holidays

by Taylor Bryant

Looks like actor Will Smith is looking to redeem himself following Suicide Squad's box office bomb in the new trailer for Collateral Beauty.

Directed by The Devil Wears Prada’s David Frankel, Smith plays a New York City ad executive whose life takes a tailspin following a sudden death (we’re led to believe it’s his daughter in the short). Not to worry, though, his gang of award-winning friends—Kate Winslet, Edward Norton, and Micheal Pena—come to his ailing side.

The premise of the movie seems to follow that of the hit Christmas film It’s A Wonderful Life. Instead of having an angel show him how the world would pan out without him there, Smith meets the three aspects of life he’s become obsessed with—death, time, and love—in physical form. The three themes are played by Helen Mirren, Keira Knightley, and Jacob Latimore, rounding out the film’s star-studded cast.

Revealing very little details about the plot, Smith spoke with EW about what drew him to the film, stating: “It was one of those where you get a screenplay and you are in by page 10. You just go, ‘Okay, I’m making this one,’” he says. “It’s a really beautiful story and one of those movies that makes the holiday beautiful.”

We know, death isn’t exactly the most uplifting subject for a holiday movie. But hey, Love Actually had its fair share of depressing moments, too (we’re still bitter about Emma Thompson’s storyline). We’re just saying.

The film is set to hit theatres December 16. In the meantime, you can check out the full trailer below.
