From Punjab To The International Stage: The Journey Of Harpal Kaur
From a small village in Punjab to international fashion sets, Harpal Kaur is turning timing, talent, and cultural pride into a global modeling career.
Harpal Kaur is an Indian fashion model and artist. Born in Punjab, India, she is now an emerging global model. As a result of the growing appreciation and visibility of diverse models, Kaur is one of the Indian models making gains in the fashion world. Since launching her career a year and a half ago, she has completed over 100 modeling assignments.
“I represent a growing wave of Indian models working across international markets, bringing cultural depth while adapting to global creative environments,” says Kaur.
An Early Introduction To Modeling
Born and raised in Saiflabad, a small village in Punjab, India, Kaur’s first introduction to the world of modeling came through Fashion TV. As a young girl, she was fascinated by the way models moved, carried emotion, and transformed fashion into narrative. What drew her in was the realization that modeling was far more than appearance. To her, it represented a sophisticated form of visual storytelling, closely connected to performance and embodiment. She saw it almost as a subdivision of acting: not limited to facial expression, but conveyed through posture, movement, energy, and the full presence of the body. That ability to communicate the spirit of a brand through physical expression is what made modeling especially compelling to her from the very beginning.
Though the people around her didn’t understand or view the fashion industry as a viable career path, Kaur decided to send her photos to an agency when she was 15. After she uploaded her photos, she received a positive response. She garnered interest both in India and internationally, but her age and background were barriers she couldn’t overcome.
“At the time, modeling was not widely understood or accepted as a stable career within my environment, and I was unable to pursue those opportunities,” Kaur says.
Another Chance At Modeling
Years later, after a move to Canada, Kaur once again had the opportunity to pursue a modeling career. She had relocated to Vancouver to study psychology. She was living an independent life far from her childhood home. One day, Kaur was approached by a street photographer, and she recalls seeing the images the photographer took of her and realizing a modeling career was possible. At that moment, she says, she reconnected with her childhood aspiration, and she decided to pursue a professional modeling career. By the time Kaur signed with her first agency at 25, she was entering a field that typically favors younger talent, creating an immediate challenge. She met this with a strong sense of self-confidence and adaptability, transforming what could have been a limitation into a defining strength. Her maturity, discipline, and clarity of purpose enabled her to integrate into the industry with a distinctive presence and professional edge.
“I overcame these challenges by trusting timing, staying consistent, and approaching every opportunity with professionalism. Rather than seeing delays as setbacks, I view them as experiences that prepared me to enter the industry with greater clarity and resilience. Honestly, I just believe in the natural flow of life,” says Kaur.
An Organically Growing Career
Soon after Kaur started her modeling career, she received what she saw as a clear sign that she had made the right choice.
“After signing with my first agency in Vancouver, my very first shoot was a paid booking rather than a test shoot, which is quite rare for a new model,” says Kaur. “When I later came to India, the same pattern repeated itself. I arrived intending to stay for just two weeks, went directly from the airport to castings with my luggage, and within two days, I had booked my first job, again, a paid assignment. That consistency felt meaningful and reinforced that I was moving in the right direction.”
Entering modeling at a later age than other models, she was able to develop traits and skills that now empower her performance. A strong sense of self, discipline, and creative awareness work to her benefit in the fashion industry.
Kaur’s approach to modeling extends beyond her appearance. She regards modeling as an art form and a way of expressing herself. In the future, she hopes to keep evolving as an artist and exploring acting.
“Ultimately, I hope to create work that resonates globally and contributes to the growing presence of Indian models on the international stage. I wish to leave a meaningful legacy while honoring my culture on a global platform,” says Kaur.
