Inside SANDRO’s Unexpected Love Affair with British Footwear

Clarks Originals gets a Parisian twist.

by Kat Guerrero

There’s something deliciously subversive about watching a Parisian maison fall for British utility footwear. It’s fashion’s favorite trope — high fashion finding common ground with everyday staples. SANDRO’s sleek Parisian aesthetic meets Clarks’s 200-year British heritage in a partnership built on shared devotion to craftsmanship and progress.

Clarks’ signature crepe soles stay untouched, while silhouettes are elevated through exceptional materials: sand suede, cognac leather, and chocolate pony hide for men, plush beige shearling and cowhide effect leather for women.

The men’s Wallabe has soundtracked everything from Manchester raves, to rap verses, to it-boys’ closets since ‘68. SANDRO gets this, keeping that signature slouch while swapping basic suede for chocolate pony hide. This is a lesson in never settling.

Where the Wallabe was subcultural, the women’s Desert Boot was born in a Cairo bazaar as a nod to adventure and rugged ideals. This year marks its 75th anniversary, a testament to lasting appeal. The Parisians took notes and put their spin on nomadic footwear for the modern wanderer.
