Fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer know the deal: In every generation there is a Chosen One. She alone will stand against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness. She is the Slayer. And now Sarah Michelle Gellar, the original Buffy Summers, knows who she wants to pass the stake, er, torch to should the series ever get a reboot.

Gellar took on the titular role from 1997 to 2003, which saw her falling in love with two vampires, slaying hundreds of others, protecting the residents of Sunnydale from the Hellmouth, and saving the world on more than one occasion.

"I vote Zendaya," revealed Gellar in an interview with Evan Ross Katz, author of Into Every Generation a Slayer Is Born: How Buffy Staked Our Hearts, noting that she supports a reboot of the show if it comes to fruition.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer celebrated its 25th anniversary earlier this month, which Gellar commemorated with a heartfelt post to her fans.

“25 years ago today I had the honor to introduce the world to my version of Buffy Anne Summers. It was an uphill battle. A mid season replacement, on a new network based on a movie, that was by no means a giant success. But then there was you. The fans. You believed in us. You made this happen. You are the reason 25 years later we are still celebrating. So today we celebrate you as well.”

Although the prospect of Buffy the Vampire Slayer becoming fodder for the reboot industrial has fans divided, Gellar made her support clear in 2018. "At the end of the day, it's all about great storytelling,” she told People. “If a story lives on, then I think it should be told in any incarnation it can be told in."

As for Zendaya, her plate is famously full with role in Euphoria, the Dune franchise, and more, but there’s no doubt she could take down supernatural forces of evil if it comes down to it.
