And The 2017 Emmy Nominations Are…

Whose For Your Consideration campaigns paid off the most?

by Taylor Bryant

With Game of Thrones out of the running for Emmy contention (during its last season at that; the show has already taken home 38 awards, the most of any fictional series), Thursday’s nomination announcement had a lot of people wondering who would take the, well, throne.

Women seemed to be the clear front-runners in terms of outstanding performances from the past year. The Handmaid’s Tale, Big Little Lies, Westworld, The Crown—all female-driven shows—had a ton of buzz surrounding them. And with a lot of newcomers on the front, it looked like The Year of Peak TV had the potential to be The Year of Change.

And it is, sort of! Saturday Night Live and Westworld led the pack with the most nominations (22). Stranger Things and Feud: Bette and Joan were close behind (18), with Veep following (17). New but already beloved shows like This Is Us, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Big Little Lies also got their due. Remember Barb from Stranger Things? Of course, you remember Barb from Stranger Things. She also got a nod—possibly due to the internet’s strange obsession with the fate of the forgotten character.

Check out all of the other nominees below. The 69th Emmy Awards air September 17 with Stephen Colbert as the host. Tune in then to see if your faves manage to take home the crown.
