Anna Kendrick Breaks Bad In The ‘Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates’ Trailer

Since when did Zac Efron become the king of the red band R-comedy trailers? Whenever it happened, it’s a good thing.

Today sees another example with the release of the trailer for Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, a comedy that seems to be blending the best bits of Wedding Crashers, Bridesmaids, and, hmmm, Neighbors. Here we have Efron and Pitch Perfect and Workaholics star Adam DeVine as the titular Mike and Dave—two confirmed party bros aging out of their drinky hijinks who need dependable, respectable dates for their sister’s upcoming wedding. 

Meeting that need are Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza, two women who seem to be even more drinky and hijinks-prone than Mike and Dave. Looking for a free trip to Hawaii that comes with the destination wedding, they decide to hide their Broad City ways and make themselves, in Plaza’s words, “respectable as fuck.” Plaza is soon seen smoking weed out of an apple so that only goes so far. 

Helmed by 7 Days in Hell director Jake Szymanski and scripted by the guys behind Neighbors, the whole thing looks pretty over the top and offers up a rare look at Kendrick as an unsavory character. It’s just the sort of hard-R entertainment you’d want to see right around June 8 when it hits theaters.
