Asha Banks has a secret: She may or may not be a Traitor. “[My team and I are] playing our own game for the whole three weeks of touring,” the burgeoning actress and singer-songwriter tells NYLON. “We’re doing round tables, we did a trial in Philly where we did a relay race up and down the Rocky steps in order to get a shield for the murder … We’re doing The Traitors with a side of touring.”

In the Lower East Side’s Bowery Ballroom on an early October afternoon, we meet in the greenroom of the legendary concert hall roughly 20 minutes after her arrival. Banks’ rider essentials — an assortment of teas, Manuka honey, Throat Coat, a steamer, and a kettle — are strewn across the tiny countertop, turning the singer’s makeshift arsenal into her home for the night. “It’s so messy immediately, it’s literally like my bedroom,” she says apologetically. “I’ve been here for five and a half minutes, how has that happened?” Even in the face of chaos, the Brit remains gracious and personable; she’s quick to go in for the hug and wastes no time welcoming me into her crew, tossing out introductions to everyone we come across. At this point, there’s still at least four hours to go before Banks is expected to hit the stage, yet a line of superfans has already begun queueing outside the venue.

“These girls out the front I’ve seen before the shows and after the shows literally every day,” she says. “They’re welcoming me off the bus and then sending me away afterwards. They’re so great.” It’s no surprise Banks has amassed such an ardent fan base: A mainstay of the Amazon Prime Video extended universe, Banks is not only the star of the popular 2025 Amazon Prime Video film My Fault: London and its 2026 sequel Your Fault: London, but her song “Too Busy Missing You” was prominently featured in the Season 1 finale of Off Campus earlier this year.

“The Off Campus opportunity arose, and I was like, ‘I absolutely have to,’” she explains. “I had seen it bubbling on social media and that people were so excited for it, and I was like, ‘This is going to be amazing.’ I’m very glad that I did, because it’s made such a huge difference.” Add a North American tour and a brand-new EP, Bottled Up, which dropped on Oct. 2, on top of it all, and you quickly begin to understand why Banks describes the past few months as “absolutely insane.”

“It becomes more insane in the quiet moments, but I feel like I’ve had less of those, so there’s moments where I can catch myself and just recognize how insane it is,” she says. “It’s truly everything I’ve dreamed of, so it’s just amazing.” Of course, her success didn’t just appear out of thin air; Banks has been steadily working toward this level of success ever since she made her TV acting debut on EastEnders in 2011, before going on to star in West End productions of Les Misérables and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

She’s not new to this life by any means, so even though her career is advancing at a much more rapid pace these days, she does feel especially primed for this moment. “I feel lucky in that each thing that I’ve done feels like it’s taken [me] a gradual step up,” says Banks. “I’ve been able to stay grounded as I go, and because of that, it feels less overwhelming than it could have. Inside I’m like, ‘No, I have really worked for this and have been wanting this and been thinking about it, and it’s slowly been coming.’ Which I think is really a nice way to come at it.”

Now her ambitions of “BBEGOWT-ing” (pronounced baby goating), an EGOT-style accomplishment that Banks half-jokingly created for herself, don’t seem so far-fetched anymore. “It’s the BAFTA, Brit, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Wembley Stadium, and Tony,” she explains through laughter. “This is obviously irony, but also, why not try? Why not just aim high?”

As if it weren’t obvious from the perpetual smile etched onto her face and the playful, family-like dynamic she has with her team, Banks is having the time of her life “roughing it” on this tour. Along for the journey are her supporting act Alfie Jukes, one of Banks’ closest friends in the world whom she met on the set of a musical when she was 15 and he was 16, and her manager Will, who plays a very crucial role in the postshow Traitors gameplay as The Traitors UK host Claudia Winkleman. “He does have a wig and the outfit and all,” she says. Whoever wins gets a wild dolphin adopted in their name, courtesy of Will.

“Last time, myself and my drummer Ramiel won as Faithfuls, which was great, and Will adopted a pony called Tinkerbell. Now we get mail updates on Tinkerbell and how she’s doing,” says Banks. “I take it far too seriously, genuinely. I’ve resorted to speaking to myself in my hotel room, looking in the mirror and being like, ‘Hey, if this person murders, what does that mean?’”

Bowery Ballroom has seen its fair share of legends come and go, but Asha Banks has already made her mark on the space. Scattered throughout the room is an assortment of goodies she’s accumulated from fans, including a pastry from Librae Bakery, custom Asha Banks-branded M&Ms, and a handwritten note. “Yesterday I was told that the girls that went to the Philly show are all coming back today. They’ve all made friends, so they’re all going to travel together. There’s something very nice about that,” she says, her words teeming with reverence and appreciation. With no space for lunch in the overcrowded greenroom, Banks steps away to grab a quick bite to eat just before sound check, making sure to check in with her adoring, dedicated fans in the queue on her way out.

To say we’ve been leaning into our party-rock lifestyle would be an understatement. Since the second Labor Day passed, it’s been go-go-go with New York Fashion Week running us into the ground and Paris Fashion Week continuing to delight and exhaust. In between these two tentpoles, though, there were even still events to attend and parties to pop into. YSL Beauty Shuts Down Soho With Some A-List Friends

It’s official: Anthony Vaccarello is leaving his post at Saint Laurent after a decade. There were signs, even for those who don’t catch on quickly. During his bow at the most recent Paris Fashion Week, he mic-dropped his finale bow and literally handed the keys back to the maison. His final show was dipped in gold, with a run of his greatest hits from his tenure spent redefining Saint Laurent. His definition of Saint Laurent included glamour at all costs, sometimes severely so, with sky-high heels, sleek suits, infamously short party dresses with sparkles, feathers, sequins, and classically French big shoulders and a penchant for drama that was (and is) refreshing in fashion. Beauty for beauty’s sake, and almost every celebrity bought into his vision.

His muses throughout the years were steadfast. There’s Anja Rubik, the legendary supermodel who continued to walk his runways right until the very end; Zoë Kravitz, who was seen tearing up during Vaccarello’s final bow; and more recently, stars like Zoe Saldana and Charli xcx. We’re paying homage to a decade of Vaccarello-isms with ten of his best red-carpet looks from his tenure. A very early adopter and muse of Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent, Rubik probably wore it the most out of anyone on our list. We picked this look because it shows from the jump that Vaccarello’s vision was going to be divisive, and the ugly-floral-print trend came back around eventually, proving his visionary habits. It doesn’t hurt that this is just a plain good party dress, too.

We could devote an entire article to Kravitz’s best Saint Laurent moments, but this stands out for its theme-appropriate bra (it’s giving cat, no?) and the swoop of her bangs contrasting with the scalloped neckline. It also represents the best of Vaccarello: sexy without compromising intrigue and unparalleled design.

Rosé, 2022

Rosé has also been a Saint Laurent girlie for almost half of Vaccarello’s time there, and this look comes from the Spring 2023 collection that had lots of these hooded dresses. She made it her own with a braid and a hefty dose of armor on her wrist.

Bella Hadid, 2024

Perhaps his best red-carpet look... of all time? Hadid shut down Cannes (as always), made them rethink the dress code, and defined a color of summer 2024 all in one fell swoop. It defined everything that made Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent headline-grabbing, and at the end of the day, she looks d*mn sexy, and that’s what matters.

Charli xcx, 2025

Something about Saint Laurent and Cannes just makes sense — during Vaccarello’s time, he started a film-production company under the brand — and Charli carried Hadid’s nude dressing into the next year. This was glamour at its best, with an unexpected color choice for Charli that resulted in one of the hottest dresses she’s ever worn.

Alexander Skarsgård, 2025

Vaccarello’s best red-carpet look on a man, no question. When these boots walked the runway, they instantly went viral, and who better to rock them than one of our best-dressed men of last year and the wackiest guy in film? His height helps him pull them off, and he looks dapper and BDSM-lite at the same time.

Chloë Sevigny, 2025

My personal pick for the best red-carpet look of 2025. Sevigny and her stylist dipped into the Vaccarello archives and selected this Spring/Summer 2018 dress for a major moment seven years later. The biker shorts, the poofy skirt, the lace, and the one-toe heel are things stars could rock, sure, but all together? It takes someone bold like Sevigny to make it work, let alone at such a gown-heavy event like the Venice Film Festival.

Rihanna, 2025

Rihanna changed the pregnant-dressing game for good with her first pregnancy, and with her third, she was doing laps around us all. This ballgown-and-leather-bomber-jacket moment was out of this world, and proved she will not stop at anything to serve us a look.

Hailey Bieber, 2026

Vaccarello’s final Met Gala couldn’t have landed on a better theme, Costume Art, and he paid homage to Yves Saint Laurent’s 1969 collection made in collaboration with Claude Lalanne with this 24-karat-gold bodice sculpted to perfection on one of his modern muses. The deep Yves-Klein-blue silk makes the ideal contrast with the gold and adds that classic Vaccarello-ian dose of drama.

Connor Storrie, 2026

The latest (and last) menswear muse and campaign star for Vaccarello, Storrie shot to fame and quickly became a fashion muse. We love seeing a new guy on the scene wear something so expressive and left of center on fashion’s biggest night.

Thomas Day is having a better week than most of us. Today, the burgeoning pop singer released his brand new EP, My Bad, which he’s celebrating with another trip around the sun. “I can't even believe [I’m turning 24],” Day tells NYLON. “I saw this thing that was like, ‘22, you're young, 23, you're old as f*ck. 24, you're young again. 25, you're young. 26, you're young. 27, you're old as f*ck. 28, you're old as f*ck. 29, you’re old, 30, you're young as f*ck.’ I was like, oh my God, dude,” he says despondently. Hopefully for his sake, the shock will wear off by the time he makes his festival debut at Austin City Limits on Oct. 11. “I've been really, really dreaming about doing festivals, so I'm super excited.”

My Bad comes exactly one year after his Kids EP — a total coincidence, he insists — which spawned one of his largest hits to date, the peppy love letter “She Got A Thing About Her.” Within a few weeks, he was back with “Lost Myself 4 U,” a moody, Labrinth-esque breakup track that proved to be an even bigger smash. Now, he’s back with a project that he insists will make him a huge star before he turns 25.

“I think I'm going to become one of the biggest artists in the game. I'm not even lying,” Day says. “I have a drive now. Last year was a confidence year. I produced two records that are now my biggest performing songs, and I wrote them by myself, and it gave me the confidence that I can do this.”

“I'm excited to release this EP because they're going to get a taste of this and everything's going to start really, really, really hitting this next year,” he continues. “I'm just dialed in on all levels. [24 is] going to be a really big year.” We tend to agree, which is why we caught up with the artist on his second-to-last day of being 23 to talk about his new project, ACL, and the importance of authenticity in music.

How are you feeling about the EP release?

I'm excited for people to hear it. It's a collection of songs that I produced and wrote on one weekend. I fell in love with these records when I first made them, and I'm excited for people to hear this side of me. It's a different side of my artistry that I feel like I haven't really tapped into too much.

What was going on in your life when you were writing the songs?

A lot of where this came from was just influences of home and what I grew up listening to, like Phoenix, Current Joys, and MGMT, and trying to find a way to find all my favorite influences and mix them into one cohesive sound. I originally went into it making an album and I probably made 20 songs of music that are in this world. Then I was like, “I'm just going to make it an EP” because the thing about me is, I'm always writing and I'm always inspired. When I was writing it, I was changing and growing and trying to find what it felt like to listen to music as a toddler and just be jumping around.

I was talking to my girlfriend and she was like, "Bro, what was it with children that were obsessed with [the band] Fun.? I swear every kid I knew was f*cking screaming ‘Carry On’ for no reason." I was trying to capture that feeling for me with my siblings, who are much older than me. They were showing me MGMT and Phoenix and all of these original things that made me feel like that. That's where my head was at. I was really trying to get my biggest influences out.

Is there a song that you're most excited for people to hear?

I'm releasing a really deeply personal song on this record, something that I haven't ever done before. It's called “Cannonball,” and people probably won't guess what it's about, fingers crossed, because they'll take it in their own way, but that's probably the most exciting thing. It's the most different than all the others. I'm very excited. I don't even know how to f*cking promote that song online.

Well, I was going to ask if there's a song that you're nervous about putting out.

Definitely that one. It's the type of song where I immediately write it and I'm like, "Yeah, bro, I'm never going to release this," only because it's so personal to me and people that are in my life. The people in my life will literally be like, "Oh, it's so f*cking obvious." They'll all know because it's a trauma-dumped song, so it's just going to create f*cking lore and tea in my family tree.

How do you think you're going to navigate that conversation when it comes up?

I don't know. The person that I wrote about, I asked them, "Hey, do you want to hear this song?" And they were like, "Yeah, no, I don't want to hear this song.” But they're going to hear it, so we're going to see. It's one of those songs that if this type of scenario has happened to you, it's going to hit people if they really, really listen to those lyrics.

So would you describe the EP as your most personal work, or is that song just an outlier?

That song's just a standout. [The EP] has by far the most personal song I've ever written on it, but the EP in itself is really just me just not overthinking and just having a good time with music and finding something that's unique that people can latch onto. I will die on this hill that it's the most unique EP dropping that doesn't really sound like anything else this year. I'm not even being cocky, I actually believe that. I'm just confident and I know it.

Which of these songs are you most excited to play live?

I've been doing rehearsals for the past couple of days and I love playing “Will You Be Coming Around” live. It's so fun and I think people are going to really, really enjoy that. The first song on the record is a horny French song, and that song is my favorite to perform live for sure.

How have the live show rehearsals been going?

It's interesting navigating the differences between this music and how it's going to come across live. I don't know yet. I think it's going to be super fun and upbeat, but I'm excited to figure it out. It's a really, really good show.

Is there anything you can tease about the ACL set?

I'm definitely playing unreleased songs.

So does that mean more music coming soon?

Oh, for sure. The train is non-stopping. I want to be releasing so much more next year. I write too much to just hold onto it. I don't want to just hand it out to artists because I'm too much of a baby. I'm like, "No, I want this song."

Is there a reason for that?

I think it's hard for me to come to terms with giving a song to somebody if I don't feel like they will do it justice, so it really has to depend on the person. It's the same for if I'm writing for somebody, I don't want to go in there and not give them exactly what they want. I just have so much music that I probably won't release. So at the end of the day, it's like, "Brother, just settle down and just let them..." But I'm weird like that.

Is there an artist or artists who you do think would do your music justice?

There's definitely artists at the top I would love to write for. I would love to write for Daniel Caesar or Rex Orange County. That'd be really tight because I love composing and I know that Rex loves composing.

Who are you excited to see at the festival this weekend?

To be fully transparent with you, I haven't really looked at who's playing my day. I could be wrong, but I think Audrey Hobert is playing my day, which could be nice. I would love to see her jump on a trampoline. I love it.

Who else is inspiring you these days?

I've been listening to a lot of the new Steve Lacy record, Oh, yeah? I think it’s his best album. He is so good, and I'm in awe of somebody that consistently is themself. I feel like he doesn't try to be anything else but himself. That's what I find people resonating with a lot. I've been loving some Slayyyter. I just love people that are being themselves.

There’s obviously a trend for fans to hate on artists right now, and I think it's from imitation. When somebody's imitating something and it doesn't come off as authentic… everything needs to be as authentic as possible now, because nobody can really tell the difference anymore, so you need to be yourself and authentic because that's what hits home.

With AI and all this sh*t getting f*cking crazier, I've noticed a trend of people longing to go back to almost Tumblr-era sh*t. Filming on digicams, anything that feels nostalgic because everybody just wants it to be like how it used to be. I think that is really important right now. That's what I really searched for with this record because it just felt like how it used to be for me and what I fell in love with music. It seems like the most maxed out version of what I love. It just feels like me.

Those of us who bought stock in Audrey Hobert early on have been reaping the benefits all year long. There was the NPR Tiny Desk appearance, the “Sue Me” needle drop in Off Campus, the Lollapalooza moment, and even a debut on the Billboard Hot 100. To our fellow investors, we say: Get ready to cash in once again, because the rising pop star just released a music video for “Phoebe,” the beloved fan-favorite album track about self-love and radical acceptance.

The video, self-directed by Hobert, begins with the 27-year-old taking a walk on the beach ‘cus a guy doesn’t like her back (as the song goes), where she seemingly makes a wish on a rock and throws it into the ocean. She returns to her lonely, dark home and tosses a self-written screenplay titled “The Story Of My Life” into a fire before burying her hopes and dreams in a cemetery.

In an attempt to touch grass, she takes a trip to the woods and consults the redwood trees about her troubles. Throughout her journey she’s followed by a white van, but doesn’t acknowledge its presence until the driver offers her a cartoonishly large lollipop, which she reluctantly accepts.

She continues to spend time alone — at the bar, in the woods, at the beach, in the bathroom — until slowly, the “dull ache” she writes about no longer bothers her. And when the man in the van eventually returns, he’s got something that actually excites her: Tickets to Lady Gaga’s Chromatica Ball.

Noticeably absent from the music video is Phoebe Buffay, aka Lisa Kudrow’s character from Friends, whom the song is named after.

Every editor, influencer, and PR representative drew a deep sigh of relief after the last finale walked in Paris and Fashion Month drew to a close. No more getting-ready stories, no more fighting for a front-row seat, and finally, no more early mornings and late nights. (We’re not jaded, we’re just tired.) Now that I have some distance (namely, two days) from the proceedings, up top this week, I’m taking stock of the top ten shows of the month.

The best shows were ones that surprised us (Rick went romantic and Simone went a little sexy!) and also left no stone unturned in the name of providing glamour and a capital-S Show. There were gold-covered runways, literally and figuratively, alleged swan songs, massive birds, preppy throwbacks, glittery platforms, and so much more. The shows that left an impression on us leaned into the silliness of it all (after all, it’s just fashion) and left us feeling joyful despite, you know, the state of the world. The Top Ten Runway Shows Of Spring/Summer 2027

10. Rick Owens

Owens showed his romantic side off at his usually epic show, with gossamer gowns providing a welcome contrast to his usual goth-glamazon look. The intricate pleating and ribboning made for some of the best dresses of the month.

9. Saint Laurent

We still don’t know if it was a swan song yet, but Anthony Vaccarello’s ten-year-anniversary runway show was certainly a mic drop for the ages if the rumors of his departure turn out to be true. It was truly epic: Massive gold chandeliers hung over the gold-tinted runway, and 49 looks made entirely in gold fabric made for the most ostentatious, high-fashion catwalk of the season. We couldn’t help but gag for the spectacle of it all; it was a thing of pure beauty.

8. Marni

Meryll Rogge’s second season at the steering wheel for the quirky Italian brand saw her dial in on the way women actually dress in the brand’s clothes, resulting in a more straightforward, concise vision than her debut offering. It just felt right. Plus, I think she has a hit bag on her hands with the oversized semicircle shoulder bag, especially in the multicolor style.

7. Eckhaus Latta

Nobody does sexiness better than the duo behind New York’s cult-favorite label, and the double layering of the sheer tanks is immediately going to be recreated by me come spring. It also felt funny in the most Eckhausian way possible to see the show end with its J.Crew collaboration. Come one, come all, and bring your preppy flair with you, too.

6. Luar

Speaking of spectacle, finding a gag-worthy venue in New York can be daunting (and expensive), but leave it to Raul Lopez of Luar to not only get the fashion set out to Queens, but put on a show that stands up to its location. Titled “Christopher Street Columbus,” the show tackled mixing the 15th century with the feel of early 2000s New York, putting cap sleeves and puffy Renaissance-era shorts with leather jackets, feathered capes, and damn-good gowns that we hope to see this coming awards season. The traffic getting home was worth it.

5. Vaquera

Picture Paris fashion as a magnificient, perfectly frosted cake. Vaquera is sticking its hand into that confection and smearing frosting everywhere. Designers Patric Dicaprio and Bryn Taubensee’s deeply serious fashion, which included well-designed housewive dress sendups and boxy shirts and shorts, is belied by the hilarity of their shows, which this season included a banging soundtrack that culminated in the duo singing Cher & Sonny karaoke during the finale.

4. Simone Rocha

The Simone Rocha aesthetic is so tried and true that reinventing the wheel can often times feel like a high order, but that’s just what Rocha did this season. She went a little sexier, with more scoop in her necklines and tighter silhouettes that didn’t compromise her cerebral, feminine side. It felt less fussy than previous seasons, resulting in instantly wearable and still covetable pieces (Alexa Chung already wore the purple shirt and layered skirt look).

3. August Barron

Glamour for glamour’s sake is a rare occasion these days, so when a duo brings out the wackiest, glitter-covered, downright slutty fashion of the week, we have no choice but to stan. Designers Bror August Vestbø and Benjamin Barron combined endless Hollywood references with their signature three-dimensional take on fashion, resulting in windswept Marilyn-style dresses, retro sportswear, undone Boogie Nights-style lingerie, a foray into sunglasses, epic, teetering, glittering, eye-popping platform shoes, and gaudy hair and makeup. It doesn’t sound like it should work, but with models as fierce as theirs, you can’t help but fall in love with their vision.

2. Chanel

Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel has taken the world by storm, and if any detractors were looking for something to knock him for in this show, they would come out empty-handed again. He deftly combined Edwardian-era undergarments with the codes of Chanel, making sexy little henleys with embroidery feel so fresh, and yet again updating the skirt suit with an even lower waistband and cropped jackets in a rainbow of hues. Something for everyone without making what could feel like a merchandised commercial collection. The shoes were banging, the casting was perfect as always (especially the women over 50), and if you didn’t leave the show with a smile after hearing “Gimme More” play halfway through? You don’t have a heart.

1. Prada

It was the skirt heard around the world — well, the 63 skirts. There was no fuss, no filler, and no nonsense at this season’s Prada show, with every model wearing a skirt, and most wearing just a bra top with it. The message couldn’t have been clearer, and in a season where real clothes and zero theatrics felt like the right way forward, this show stuck out for being relevant and refreshingly straightforward.

More Method-Ish Dressing From Florence Pugh

If you haven’t already watched Zoe Kazan’s fiercely epic East of Eden adaptation on Netflix, please do so immediately. Not only is it an excellent vehicle to finally see Mike Faist again, but Florence Pugh as Cathy Ames is a revelation. Her fashion for the global press tour hits just as hard, too: She’s taking look inspiration from the corsetry and dress of the era of the series, but making it modern and oh-so British. She’s run around London, New York, and Los Angeles in Vivienne Westwood, Erdem, Bvlgari diamonds, and vintage Alexander McQueen, always looking classy and never like she’s trying too hard.

Charlotte Lawrence, The Eloise Of The Ritz

Lawrence is a Paris regular — see: any of our fashion-week front-row roundups — so linking up with Frame to continue its collaboration with The Ritz just makes sense. She stars in the campaign for the latest collection, dropping Oct. 9, which sees her spending 24 hours in the city of love decked out in Frame denim, matching silk separates, and cozy sweaters ideal for pairing with room service and a long morning in bed.

Attending Paris Fashion Week is already a daunting experience, with celebrity sightings, intense front rows, and demanding schedules, so imagine adding an intimate live performance to your debut fashion-week calendar. Colombian singer Aria Vega wasn’t sweating it, though. She was totally at peace at the Johanna Ortiz runway show, and singing while the runway was walking was just another gold star to add to her epic 2026.

Dressing up for a show is one thing, but when all eyes will be on you for the main event, it takes a bit more consideration and care. To choose her look, which Ortiz custom-made for her, Vega wanted something “that felt like me within Johanna’s universe,” she explains. “I’m drawn to movement, texture, and a little drama, but I also need to feel comfortable enough to perform. The look had to come alive when I moved.” No wonder, then, that when I ask her what her favorite look from the show was, the answer was her own: “ I loved the cream and burgundy print, the flowing sleeves, and the way the ruffles moved. With the layered necklaces and strappy sandals, it felt very me.”

Feeling at home in your body as a performer is all you can ask for, but Vega has been everywhere but her native Colombia this summer. With her viral hit track “Chévere” (“cool” in Spanish slang), Vega has taken her bodacious, irresistible dance music and energy to Puerto Rico, Barcelona, and Madrid, the latter of which was for Shakira’s Macondo Festival: She performed during the weekendlong festivities and even walked alongside the superstar “She Wolf” singer during her headlining set. Vega is proving her music has legs and that she’s here to stay. She’s nominated for Best New Artist at the Latin Grammys, and “Chévere” topped Colombia’s Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Performing on stage with the bestselling Colombian artist of all time is certainly an overwhelming experience, but taking on a Parisian fashion show also requires the same amount of preparation. “I wanted the performance to feel like stepping into my world,” she says. “My music carries so much of the Colombian Caribbean, so I thought about how that energy could live alongside Johanna’s collection. The clothes, the music, the movement… I wanted it all to feel connected.” The morning of, she entered prep mode by listening to Colombian salsa legend Joe Arroyo — “music really sets the mood for me, so getting ready its almost its own little preshow” — and enjoying a must-have meal. “I don’t have a specific pre-event meal, but I’m a foodie, so skipping meals is never really an option. I get hangry. Lol. I simply can’t function on an empty stomach. Today I had toast with hummus, eggs, cheese, and smoked salmon.”

After the show, Vega was in a reflective and creative mindset. Ortiz’s clothing is maximalist, unafraid of patterns and embroideries, and embraces the casual salsa-inflected energy of the designer’s home country, and Vega’s music also leans into the chill, easygoing vibrations Colombia is known for. “It felt really special to bring our worlds together in Paris. Johanna and I are both maximalists to the core,” she says. “We express ourselves through different mediums, but we share a connection to where we come from. Colombia has so many creative voices, and I love being able to share my own little corner of it: the Caribbean, its attitude, its sensuality, its joy.”

Even though her schedule had her mimicking the infamous Lady Gaga quote “No sleep, bus, club, another club, another club, plane, and then the next place,” she made time to actually see the French capital. “Anyone who knows me knows I’m a tourist through and through. I love walking around, visiting galleries and museums, trying restaurants, sightseeing, all of it. I feel incredibly privileged to travel through my music, so whenever I get the chance, I like to take it all in.” We can’t wait to see where her music takes her next.

In a year when every pop girl (and some guys) are dropping new music, it was only a matter of time before Tate McRae joined in on the streaming frenzy.

The “Greedy” singer announced her return to music on Oct. 7 via a somewhat-unceremonious post on Instagram. In the post, she shared that her new single, titled “Housewife,” drops on Oct. 15 — either that, or she’s really excited about the upcoming season of Real Housewives of Potomac. Assuming the former, the pop star failed to give a tease of the track beyond the single’s cover art: a photo of McRae posing in a bikini and a stroller full of cash on the grounds of very well-manicured mansion.

“Housewife. Out 10.15 💍,” she wrote in the cryptic caption.

The song will mark the singer’s first release since the deluxe edition of her third studio album, So Close To What, dropped in November 2025. While not much else is known about McRae’s next era at this time, hopefully we’ll get some answers during her upcoming appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which airs tonight.

Day 28 of Fashion Month brought about the end of many people’s trips with the Chanel show in the evening, but before then, there was the not-to-be-missed Zimmermann runway which brought out one of our favorites, Zoey Deutch. The actor is familiar with Paris, having filmed her turn in Nouvelle Vague as a young Jean Seberg in the city in 2024, and this year, she’s been doing the fashion-week rounds. For the Zimmermann show, it was all about the dress, a white long-sleeved silk maxi number with a black diamond on the bodice and waistband. It was easy, breezy, and required only a tan boot and a patchwork-patterned Cloud 91 clutch to make the look complete.

At the show, she ran into some familiar faces, namely Charlotte Lawrence, Naomi Ackie, and Eve Hewson, saw some more all-white runway outfits we may very well see her in next season, and indulged in some fries after the show was over. (Don’t worry, her Listerine-strip addiction will ensure she’s never caught with French-fry breath.) As the story goes, DeTiger performed at Bowery’s legendary CBGB club when she was just 7 years old. In the sprawling metropolitan labyrinth of New York City, where new eateries promising the next best thing since sliced bread and storied watering holes are peppered on seemingly every corner, everyone claims to know the spot to be. Your best night there: We love their trivia Tuesdays. There isn’t one specific night, but all of our friends congregate there and eat and chat. We won the best team name once with “Larry Fungus.” Still really proud of that.

How did you discover it? After being invited to a short-film premiere, but I had no idea how lively the lobby was.

When you became a regular: Last fall, when I found out there was chess and pool.

Your best night there: When I won chess four times in a row and tied and then went to a Haitian film festival showing downstairs. That was the first time I was in a room with majority first-generation Haitian creatives, and we all related to the films they were showing. The themes, the language, cultural nuances. It was truly such a special moment to share laughs, tears, and overall emotional roller-coaster with people who live such similar experiences.

Vienna Skye, Actor

Age: 28

Hometown: East Brunswick, New Jersey

The spot: Gem Home

Your go-to order: Their sweet potato sandwich is such an unexpected combo that I can’t seem to replicate at home, so I always order that. They start serving them at 11:30, so if I am there for breakfast, I usually get a scone and a matcha Americano.

How did you discover it? Whenever I go out of town, even just for a couple days, a new place opens while I’m gone. Gem Home was one of those places I stumbled upon when it opened about two years ago, and I’ve been going ever since.

How far it is from your house? About 3,000 steps. I try to get 20,000 steps per day, so a Gem Home trip should be 6,000 round trip.

When you became a regular: This year. Whenever I want to meet a friend I always suggest Gem. It’s usually a convenient location for everyone.

Your best night there: I was at Gem Home when I found out that I got the role I’ve been really excited about.

The spot: Otto's Shrunken Head

Your go-to order: Pangs Punch because it's radioactive and comes with a glow stick. Or the Shrunken Skirt because a Hula girl mug is cute. I would like to go on a double date and try the Volcano Blast together. It's for three to four people, and there's a flame in the center.

How did you discover it? I love tiki bars. I am always discovering new bars really just by walking around and being curious. If I see animal print, I'll do a double-take and look it up on my map to save it. My hobby is taking my friends to new spots and seeing their reactions to an epic spot they haven't gone to that isn't blown up but has immense swag and vibes. I like an experience.

How far it is from your house? 25-minute bus ride. Shout-out M15.

When you became a regular: I started coming here about a year ago. I like spots with an old-school, charming atmosphere with locals [on] weekdays when you just want one cute drink before you have your not-so-cute (tequila soda) drinks after.

Your best night there: It was punk/rockabilly night, and because it was a weekday, there were barely any people there — which honestly made it better. I sang and danced all night with my girlfriend and smoked way too many cigarettes. A few friendly drunk calls here and there...

Diva Smith, Musician

The spot: The York

Your go-to order: An Aperol spritz (yes, sometimes even in the winter) and the cheeseburger with a lettuce wrap. And tater tots and onion rings for the table.

How did you discover it? Through friends.

How far it is from your house? A 10-minute walk.

When you became a regular: In 2025, I went home to L.A. for a few months to recuperate after a breakup, and when I came back to the city, this was the new spot my friends had discovered. I’m not sure how it came into our orbit, but now I can’t really imagine our weekly rotation without it.

Your best night there: I feel like there’s something in the air here that makes people want to tell their secrets. Every time I go to The York, I end up hearing stories I’ve never heard before from my best friends I see every day. Something about the energy in there makes us have our deepest chats and I always leave feeling a deeper love for girlhood and friendship.

Like any true California love story, the tale of Frankies Bikinis started on a beach in Malibu. As a teenager growing up in the exclusive seaside enclave, Francesca Aiello spotted a confident woman wearing a lower-than-low-rise bikini bottom — a look she immediately wanted to achieve. The only problem? She couldn’t find it. So, she made one herself.

After making samples of her own and starting an account on the earliest edition of Instagram, the word quickly got out, and Aiello was suddenly thrust into starting a full-fledged business — at the ripe old age of 17. “I never, ever, ever intended on starting a brand, but I was so excited about these little bathing suits that I was making,” Aiello says, some 14 years later. Those “little bathing suits” became the global phenomenon known as Frankies Bikinis — and Aiello charted a fresh path in the swimwear market and redefined what collaborations and “It Girl” dressing could look like.

Aiello was born and raised in Malibu with an insatiable curiosity about clothes. Her mom always let her fly her freak flag, whether it was by wearing Vans checkered shorts with a matching backpack and slip-on sneakers or dyeing her hair primary colors. “She would get called into the kindergarten class and they were like, ‘Are you letting your daughter come to school with pink hair?’” Aiello recalls. “And she would be like, ‘So? She’s happy. She’s healthy.’” Aiello’s Malibu was all about surf culture. She grew up looking at pictures of Pamela Anderson leaving Planet Blue in sweatpants, going to the Rose Bowl to find vintage T-shirts to wear with itty-bitty cutoff shorts, and leaning into tomboy aesthetics that were directly at odds with what people thought of Los Angeles style. “A lot of Frankie’s brand DNA is based on Malibu style, and it’s so different from what anybody would imagine Malibu is. It was so low-key,” she says. “My whole life revolved around being in a swimsuit.”

It was also her mom who helped produce her first samples and turn it into a business. After Candice Swanepoel DMed Aiello asking for some swimsuits, it was clear to both that this could be something.

They say that writers should write about what they know; in Aiello’s case, she designed what she knew: a split between being ultra-girly and tomboy, with bikini and one-piece options not found elsewhere in the market. She carved out a niche that encouraged mixing different bikini bottoms and tops, and by posting directly on Instagram. Aiello recalls individually replying to every DM request for a swimsuit — “My thumbs would hurt from replying to people because we didn’t spend as much time on our phones back then” — and posting for years without thinking of proper advertising. It’s almost unthinkable now, but in hindsight, Aiello considers herself and her mom — a high schooler and a hairdresser, respectively — lucky that they had time to figure out how to not only produce swimwear, but effectively market a brand at the dawn of social media. “The second I started doing it, I got competitive with it. If I can’t beat my competitors in infrastructure and production, I can certainly try to beat them in growing on our Instagram page. Let’s see how much we can make this happen.”

Collaborations came just as instinctually. Her first co-designed collection was with Sofia Richie in 2019, and it sold out almost instantly. Soon, others wanted in. “In 2020, I was with Hailee Steinfeld, and she was like, ‘Wait, I want to be your next collaborator.’ I was like, ‘Say less. Let’s make it happen.’” Since then, Frankies Bikinis collaborators include both Hadid sisters, Kylie Jenner, Jennie, and VS Pink (since 2022, Victoria’s Secret owns a minority stake in the brand). “It’s a fun outlet for them because it’s so different from what they are normally working on. They get to express themselves and make a collection that is unique to them, their personality, and their taste, and find a way to tie it to our brand and tell the right story.”

In 2023 came a full circle moment when Aiello collaborated with the mother of all swimsuit icons: Pamela Anderson. Aiello, who grew up with Anderson’s sons, calls her “the embodiment of a powerful female. Being able to do something with her and recreate the red one piece with her later in her life was such a special moment.” Another hometown-hero moment came in the form of a childhood friend: Gigi Hadid. “I’ll never, ever forget finishing glam for the Gigi shoot and walking down and seeing her in a Frankies Bikinis bikini,” Aiello reminisces. “We were emotional all day because we were reconnecting after growing up together. I remember something about seeing her — because some of these girls are not traditional swim girls; they’re fashion girls — and it was her first time having a swim moment. The fact that they trust me of all people to lead it is so special to me on such a deep level.”

Her most recent collaboration is also close to home: Devon Lee Carlson, whom she calls her best friend. “Both of us have crazy vintage archives, so we just started pulling our favorite pieces, looking at trims and fabrics, and trying to figure out what story we wanted to tell,” Aiello tells me of her close friend. “At the end of the day, Devon’s brand identity is so identifiable that it made it so easy to design in her world. That’s my dream collaborator because there’s a different level of passion behind what they’re doing when they fully understand the creative elements of the collaboration and also the business elements of it. She knew what the Frankies girl was looking for, and she knew how to sell it in a way that made it one of our top-selling collaborations.”

Carlson’s and Aiello’s love for vintage results in a gift exchange they call “titty for tatty,” where they both bring each other vintage treasures from their recent travels. This past summer, Carlson returned from Italy with a vintage Roberto Cavalli yellow two-piece set that, as Aiello says, “is the coolest little set I’ll have forever. My closet is filled with little things from her I’ll always have and remember she gave me, which makes this [collection] special.” As if on cue, Aiello pauses as she has to divert an incoming FaceTime from Carlson. She simply giggles. It’s this girl-next-door, best-friend energy that lends Aiello’s brand, now much larger than perhaps she ever imagined, the intimate, shopping-with-your-BFF feel that extends to its in-person locations.

I point out the irony of Aiello going from digital-first sales to its now 10 brick-and-mortar stores at the same time most historic brands were hustling to build websites and social-media accounts in the 2010s. It’s the perfect anecdote to capture the modern-day business Aiello has built: unconventional, nimble, and responsive to the customers’ needs. “There’s something serious to be said about retail and where it is going,” Aiello says. “People want in-person experiences so bad that we see people doing popups and having crazy lines. It’s funny: Five years ago, people thought that was all going away, and now it’s booming. People want to have experiences they can share online, and feel like they have community around what they love.”

It’s also paramount for her to have direct feedback on the product while bringing a slice of SoCal to the people. Aiello spends time in her Malibu store the most, watching people shop and seeing what customers gravitate toward (and what they don’t). She wants every in-person experience, whether in Boston or Sherman Oaks, to feel like you’re getting a slice of the beachfront Frankies Bikinis experience. That experience also recently includes ready-to-wear and knitwear, which have seen impressive growth and slot seamlessly into the Frankies girl’s wardrobe. “I’m always making it into an outfit in my head. Yes, I’m in a really sexy, 100%-silk, baby-pink slip dress, but I’m also tossing my hair up in a messy bun to have my matcha with huge glasses and Uggs on,” she says. “There’s this beachy casual element you can do with any of our pieces. There’s no formality to it.”

This mix-and-match approach, from her first-ever designs to now the burgeoning full-service fashion brand she’s building, have made not only her collaborators trust her, but also her customers. The future is bright: More stores are surely on the way, plus yes, a lot more collaborations. She says her dream collaborator is Hailey Bieber — “I am so inspired by what Hailey’s doing at Rhode, and she’s a dream girl to do a collection with. I would love to see her point of view through swimsuits” — and that sunglasses might be the next product category she breaks into, due to her unhealthy obsession with collecting vintage pairs. But most of all, staying true to what she set out to do at just 16 years old always remains top of mind throughout the highs and lows of figuring out how to run a business. “I want to keep building the Frankies world and giving that girl everything she needs to build out her wardrobe and be that true Malibu beach girl. I love people being able to see a swimsuit with no obvious branding and look at it and go, ‘Well, obviously that’s Frankies.’ I’m living every girl’s dream, making bikinis and getting to work with amazing women. I pinch myself every day. I wish everyone could love their job in the same way I do.”

Julia Wolf is on the road again, so naturally she had to break out the manifestation journal. “Every night I write down what I’m hoping for, because I did that on my last headline tour, and everything that I wrote came to fruition,” Wolf tells NYLON, Zooming in from her hotel room in Philadelphia on her day off from the Deep End World Tour. “Now it’s a tradition for me to do that and get a new journal that’s really spooky and cute, and I bring it with me.”

Wolf is no stranger to touring, though this go-round definitely feels different for the 31-year-old emo-pop singer; not only has she graduated from the “icky, tiny van life” for her second headline tour, but the Twi-hard also got to live out her dream of performing at Forever Twilight in Forks Festival, a four-day community celebration of the Twilight books and films, on Sept. 10. “I’ve never felt like I was in a more safe space than with thousands of girls as insane as I am to drive four hours from the airport to just be fully immersed in the Twilight world,” she says. Her favorite costumes of the weekend belonged to the Alice cosplayers (“I just love the spiky hair and the gold eyes”), with an honorable mention to the Volturi. “It was just so spooky… a little intense, but in a good way,” says Wolf.

Between sound checks and vinyl-signing sessions, Wolf’s downtime gets eaten up pretty quickly, but she doesn’t seem to mind — especially when there’s a preshow Aperol Spritz waiting for her at each stop. “I thought that would be too fancy, but [the venues] were like, ‘Oh no, it’s fine,’” Wolf says, laughing. “I’ve done so many [tours] that were way worse than this to where this feels great and I just feel lucky to do it.”

Rachel Chinouriri is having trouble describing the aesthetic of her new album era. “I’ve been told I can’t say ‘sparkles’ too frequently,” she tells me, right after correcting herself. “I was in media training, and they said that I should use some different vocabulary. So I need to say ‘iridescent.’”

She’s referring to the outfits she’s been wearing recently on tour, in the lead-up to her second studio album, I Think I Spoke Too Soon, out Oct. 16. The 27-year-old Londoner is in New York for a show at Bowery Ballroom, and we’re nestled into a red-pleather booth at HiLot cocktail bar in the East Village before she catches her flight home. As she tells me about the galaxy-blue Agro Studio set she wore on stage, complete with a capri that “made my ass look fantastic,” she admits to suffering from a little brainrot. “I feel like I used to be so smart, and now, asked to describe something, I’m like, ‘That’s so tea.’ But there are other words than ‘tea,’ ‘period,’ and ‘sparkle’ that exist.”

It’s a funny position to be in for a girl who writes for a living. Chinouriri won over fans and critics alike with heart-first alt-pop anthems and meticulously crafted tales of young womanhood. But since her breakout album, 2024’s What a Devastating Turn of Events, earned her her an opening gig for Sabrina Carpenter last year and bigger venues of her own, she’s been on the track to capital-P Pop Stardom — and now, her new project is giving her a chance to look (and sound) the part.

“Trauma dance. That’s my vibe. I like to have a little cry, but keep it moving.”

“I feel like I can be very girly right now,” she says, flipping her shiny, waist-length hair as she leans back into the checkered pink backing of the booth. “I was on stage before with my big chunky boots, and now, I’ve got my little heels. I just like how feminine I feel.” She and her stylist, Shannon Kelsey Ann, have been inspired by Kylie Minogue and Madonna (specifically the Material Girl’s iconic “Hung Up” video) while crafting her tour wardrobe. “I don’t want to be too sexy because I actually don’t really think that's my personality, but I do like to have my ass out when possible, so I can have a bit of a dance,” she says. “I love a belt. So that’s the kind of vibe.”

It matches the groovy, disco-tinged fever of I Think I Spoke Too Soon, which Chinouriri describes as an accidental pivot. “The album actually started off quite indie, but then I wanted to have a bit of a funky sort of thing.” So she brought in songwriter Eli Teplin — who played on Lorde’s Virgin and has credits on Justin Bieber’s Swag duology — to add a little groove. “He expanded the world where the more I worked with him, the more disco it got,” she says. “I was like, ‘This is a vibe that I love and enjoy.’ I just maybe never thought it was something that I could dabble in and do because I had so securely cemented my indie thing.”

The album may sound like a party, but don’t be fooled — it’s as much of a lyrical gut punch as Chinouriri’s past work. “Trauma dance. That’s my vibe. I like to have a little cry, but keep it moving,” she says, as I mimic the “crying girl dancing” meme to describe how the songs made me feel. On “Broken Chair,” she repeats the line “I feel so, so sad again” against layers of glittering synths behind her, and the result feels like experiencing a night-on-the-town crash out in real time.

In fact, Chinouriri conceived the album as telling the story of a single evening out, particularly the moment it turns from fun chaos to existential dread. “It starts with ‘One Song Away From Crying,’ and then you hit the other party, and then you hit the afters, and then you’re walking home in the early morning, and you’re like, ‘I hate my life,’” she says. Think of it as trauma dumping to your friends at the club, where you can barely hear each other over the bass: “You’re telling them the worst thing ever, and then you’ve got the one friend who’s healed who’s like, ‘Oh my God, what are you doing again?’ And you’re kind of loving the drama, but you’re drinking, being like, ‘I have to think about this later.’ It’s, like, girl mess, which I love.”

But unlike her first record, “where I had to be in the trauma to write about it,” Chinouriri is happy to report she’s on the other side of said girl mess. She’s been sober for about a year, for one, which has helped her reflect on her 20s with newfound clarity. “Sometimes in my most confident phases, when I was drinking loads and being like, ‘I’m hot, men fancy me, and my career’s going great,’ I wonder if I was actually even that self-confident and self-assured. Maybe that was just me masking some other underlying self-value things,” she says. “I was like, ‘Am I running away from what I actually feel like who I am?’” She still parties now, just without the self-repression. “I still have those elements in me, but [I deal with them] in a much more healthy way, which I love.”

Another source of joy in her life: her boyfriend, Isaac, who became a character in the Chinouriri-verse after she name-dropped him in her 2025 single “Can We Talk About Isaac?” They’re now living together in North London. “He’s my shayla,” she says, quoting the TikTok meme. (There’s that brain rot again!) Her new song “Aaahhh!!!” is something of a sequel, about the panic of realizing the connection is turning into something more. “When I met Isaac, I was saying to everyone, ‘I’m going to be single for a whole year.’ I understood how to detect a f*ckboi. I was like, ‘OK, this is brilliant.’ And then I met him and was like, ‘He’s actually quite a serious contender here. He’s actually really sweet, and I fancy him.’”

It was a good problem to have — but it also meant she had to get her commitment issues sorted out ASAP. “I was frustrated because I was like, ‘I can see that if I don’t change my habits and ways, I could actually f*ck this and be a bad partner to him,’” she recalls. “So now I’m like, ‘F*ck, I thought I was going to have more fun.’ But now my life is more fun with him."

With a trans-Atlantic flight ahead of her, she’s counting down the hours till she can see him — and change into the one outfit she really wants to be wearing: a hoodie down to her knees. “Minus my career, I wear the exact same thing consistently,” she says. “Eighty percent of my life is me dressing up and walking around, so the 20% I’m not doing that, which is what Isaac sees, is me in the same tracksuit.” The iridescent outfits are for her on-stage persona, and for the fans, who clocked her style evolution instantly. “I feel like they’re kind of surprised, in a slightly gagged way. They’re all a bit like, ‘Oh, electric blue? She’s got heels on stage. Sh*t, we’re going to have to change our tops now.’” It turns out she’s growing up right along with them.

The north Brooklyn neighborhood of Greenpoint on a Monday is sleepy, especially on an overcast September day the week after New York Fashion Week, but that doesn’t stop Miss Benny from turning a look. She shows up for our 5 p.m. date at the art cafe Happy Medium wearing a black loose-knit sweater she’s had since she was 16 over a red bra with pleather shorts, Miista boots, and a blue Telluride bandana tied at her waist. We pick out ceramics to paint — a catchall ring holder for her, a ludicrously capacious mug for me — and settle in to paint and yap about a particularly fertile creative period for her. Miss Benny is only 27 years old, but she’s entering her second act thanks to her turn in Jordan Firstman’s Club Kid, which is sending tidal waves across the internet and film festivals around the world.

“I feel like I generally am getting a big reset in my life,” she tells me. “This is the first time I’ve been on camera as myself, because when I did Glamorous” — the short-lived 2023 Netflix series she starred on opposite Kim Cattrall — “I was in early, early transition. I wanted so badly to be a part of everything and feel like I had arrived. And with this, I was what I would consider to be fully formed. I had completed all my transition goals. I was in New York. I was in all these creative spaces I wanted to be in, and suddenly I was like, ‘OK, this is it. I’m finally introducing a version of myself to people that I really want them to meet.’”

It’s a long way from where she started. Benny was born and raised in Denton, Texas, a suburb of Dallas where devout Christianity was the overriding culture and heteronormativity was the currency. “When people talk about being religious as kids, they’re like, ‘It was so weird. I hated it.’ I’m like, ‘Not me. I was speaking in tongues. I wanted it to all be so real,’” she says. Still, it didn’t take long for her to bristle at her upbringing. “I came out of the gate wanting to be a girl before we were taught that was bad. I would tell all my friends, ‘Let’s play a game where I’m a girl all day,’ and everyone was fine with that,” Benny says. “Then as we got older, we were taught that was the wrong thing, and it became complicated.”

She had an outlet, at least, in acting — mostly commercials (Nerf and Goldfish, to be specific) that afforded her a degree of independence. She even almost signed a deal to become a Christian pop star (“If I had not been able to leave, I think I would have locked in and done that”), but instead she got scouted in an acting class to move to Los Angeles at 14 to pursue a bigger vision of stardom. Once there, though, she struggled to find her footing. “I was calling my agent in Texas being like, ‘Barbara, I need money.’ And she was like, ‘Will you work non-union?’ I was like, ‘I’ll put my ego aside,’” she says with a knowing giggle. “I was ahead for my age.” She picked up odd jobs wherever she could (“If I can learn it on YouTube, I can charge people to do it,” she recalls thinking) and worked as a makeup artist to pay the bills. It was her experience doing the latter that led to her big break: At a house party, she met television writer Jordon Nardino, who soon after created Glamorous — about a young makeup artist who gets a job working for a beauty mogul (Cattrall) — with Benny in mind. (She was working on the set of a Madison Beer video when she got the call about a pilot being built around her.)

All told, between pandemic delays and typical Hollywood development road blocks, the show took three years to achieve lift off. Behind the scenes, Benny was experiencing a metamorphosis of her own and privately transitioning. “I had to re-closet myself for the show because I was so paranoid they were going to fire me if I came out as trans,” she says. “Honestly, looking back, I could have probably asked for anything because they were so supportive. But I was like, ‘If you’ll let me be trans by the end of the season, we can make me the boy for the first half of the show, whatever.’ And they were like, ‘OK, cool.’”

Glamorous only lasted one season, but she ended up paying for her gender-affirming surgeries with the money she made from it. “And it all was because I was making videos and living my life, living my little truth,” she says of her career trajectory. “It’s funny because so many opportunities I’ve had have come because I was being myself and was charismatic in a public place.” She remembers a pivotal moment with Eva Longoria, who began directing the pilot episode of Glamorous: “She was like, ‘I would rather tame a tiger than paint stripes on a kitten.’ I was self-conscious about doing too much, and she was like, ‘Do too much. I would much rather have to pull you back.’ And now I try to follow that.”

Club Kid was another right place, right time blessing. In 2024, Jean Paul Gaultier invited her to a party in Los Angeles, where the cast of I Love LA would be in attendance. Benny and Odessa A’zion are pals, but the surprise of the night was her connection with Jordan Firstman. “Jordan walks in, sits across from me, and I do what I do best, which is be extremely homophobic to him,” Benny says. “And he loved it.”

He asked her what she was doing that October. Benny submitted a self-tape that was bitingly sarcastic and humorously confrontational. “In the tape, they asked for a fun story about going out, and mine, I think I was like, ‘I’m not telling a fun story back. Get over yourself. This feels like Scientology. Why do you want all these tapes of us telling you our dirt?’ And he responded to it, and so I ended up doing it.” At the time, Benny admits, she thought she was doing Firstman a favor by being in his little indie movie. Now, having seen both what it became and the acclaim around it, she’s glad she treated the whole thing so casually: “If I had known, I would have psyched myself out too much and been scared of losing it.”

Firstman stars as Peter, a New York party promoter who discovers he has a young son, Arlo, that he never knew about. Benny plays Almi, a regular on the scene who’s always around the hazy rooms that make up much of the movie. “I had a huge couple years of partying,” she says of her own self-discovery. “It was formative for me, and there were definitely low points. As you’re engaging with sex and substances for the first time, you’re obviously going to stumble a bit, and I was grateful to have the ability to fall on my face and still be accepted.” Established actors like Cara Delevingne, Diego Calva (Narcos: Mexico), and Kirby-Howell Baptiste (The Good Place) star alongside a litany of New York nightlife legends like Alaska Riley and Jonah Almost. Firstman “told all of them, ‘Miss Benny is not as much of a club kid as she used to be, so you’re going to have to help her understand how to do G,’” Benny says. “There was an artistic exchange we had amongst ourselves.” (They named their group chat “Queerdos” after a particularly scathing Letterboxd review of the movie that disparagingly referred to them as such.)

Their call times were often 10 p.m., with final scenes wrapping at 9 a.m. “The lines between partying and acting were so blurry, and it was really a unique experience,” Benny recalls. “Our producer, Alex Coco, also produced Anora. I remember when I saw Anora, I was so jealous of the fact that they had scenes where they would put the camera on and interact with people in the scene. I was like, ‘That’s probably so fun.’ Then, when we were shooting Club Kid, I had this moment where I was like, ‘Oh, my God, we’re doing that.’”

She could feel the magic of what they were making before she even watched the final product on screen. “I used to think, ‘When you make a special project, how do you know it’s special? Are you ever wrong?’” she says. “And doing this, I felt it. It was an easy process, and at every point, it felt unique and cool.” Still, uncertainty about Benny’s next chapter gnawed at her. She was at dinner with a friend, essentially spiraling about her career — “I was like, ‘I don’t know what’s about to happen. I feel like either everything’s about to work out for me, or nothing’s going to happen. I don’t know if I should pivot.’” — when a group FaceTime came in from Firstman with some news: The movie was headed to Cannes.

There is a joke on the Gay Internet™ about people being so desperate to attend any party that they would attend the opening of a can and post “Thank you, Can!” to approximate influencer-level demand. The joke ends up in the film, but on set, Benny tells me, they had been loudly manifesting attending Cannes the whole time. The May festival, where A24 ultimately acquired Club Kid in a intense bidding war, is “one of the last glamorous things you can do in movie-making,” she says, and it lived up to her expectations: a whirlwind of dinners, parties, black cars, and yachts. Last month, Benny went to Colorado’s Telluride, the polar opposite of Cannes, at least in terms of glamour, where she wore flannels and jeans, bonded with Emma Stone, and felt like she was in Stars Hollow from Gilmore Girls: “I was like, ‘This is a cartoon place.’”

While Benny casually free-hands four perfect yellow stars with a paintbrush, I ask her who her Mount Rushmore of actresses is — she answers Stone, Julianne Moore, Cate Blanchett, and Viola Davis — and we get to talking about how “like most queer people, for me, an actress is a singular entity,” she says. “No one can do what actresses can do, and especially actresses as they appreciate over time.” She’s looking forward to tackling a role where she can perhaps wear a little more clothing. “I really, really want to be in something where I get to be a thoughtful woman. Even a period piece,” she says, or, as she puts it, “a woman in distress with no iPhone in her hands.” A draw toward normalcy has been showing up in other areas of her life, too. She now looks back at her upbringing in Texas with a softer gaze. “As I get older, weirdly, I miss the South so much,” she says. “All my friends are terrified, because they know that fundamentally in the next five years I’ll be pregnant in North Carolina or something.”

But Benny knows that her best roles are still ahead of her. “I strongly believe that I will start to do my dream jobs in about 15 years. I would say my dream role, where I think I will strive the most is as someone’s floozy mistress who’s drunk and angry. When I do American Hustle, it’s over, but I have to get there first.”

As the final shades of blue dry on Benny’s catchall plate, and my mug receives its final coat on my ladybugs and crudely drawn bird, a moment of earnestness settles in. “It generally feels like all the things that I ever wanted are now arriving to me,” she says. “Weirdly, in my life, I somehow get everything I want.”

Veronika Slowikowska is trying out a new look. It’s called “crazy outfit, no makeup.” “It’s chic,” she says dryly. And it is: The ensemble in question is a pink-and-white Sandy Liang minidress adorned with rhinestones and the phrase “Princess Team” scrawled in cursive across the chest. She’s paired it with Miu Miu flats, a Prada bag, and a bare face. “I have a pimple right now, and that’s an accessory,” she says, proudly pointing to a spot on her chin. It’s a summery September day when we meet in the backyard of Odd Fox Coffee, one of Slowikowska’s favorite haunts in her Greenpoint, Brooklyn, neighborhood. She usually comes here to write, though it’s been a minute since she last sat down with her iPad and got to work. Saying things have been busy is a vast understatement.

Slowikowska, 30, joined Saturday Night Live last year as a featured player, and ever since Season 51 wrapped in May, she’s been off doing all the things she’s unable to do while the show is in production; namely, filming movies and, in a surprise extracurricular twist, working on music. She just returned from a trip to her home country of Canada last week, where she got to spend some quality time working on puzzles with her live-in boyfriend of around three years (who may or may not be her roommate and frequent collaborator Kyle Chase) and her family in Muskoka. “We did a meeting of parents,” she says. “That was a real crazy collab. It went really well.”

Slowikowska is like a lab-developed amalgam of her comedy heroes — a swirl of Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennett’s alt-comedy sensibilities, Jack Black’s physical comedy, and Kristen Wiig’s fearless commitment to the bit — while somehow also being completely one of a kind. Her awkward-character work stands out and will make your skin crawl with secondhand embarrassment as she painfully fumbles words or expertly fails to land a joke. Yet even in that mode, like her most successful SNL predecessors, there’s something about her that makes it impossible to look away — a one-two punch of honed skill (see: the expert way she contorts her face) and good old-fashioned, jumps-off-the-screen star quality.

“I don’t struggle with a big ego, I struggle with not believing in myself enough sometimes: ‘You deserve to be here. Go for it.’”

We’re only a few weeks out from her second season, but Slowikowska still can’t get over Season 51, her big break. “It was everything I thought it would be and more in every sense of the word,” she says. “More pressure than I ever thought, more fun than I ever thought. Really challenging but rewarding. [You’re] like, ‘Will I ever make it through?’ And then you do.”

“It’s so hard, and so fun, and so insane,” she continues, “and there’s nothing like it, but I did it. I was at the wrap party, and I was like, ‘Damn, I did it.’ I didn’t have a panic attack on TV. Yet. The show is its own organism, and you’re your own worst enemy. It’s all [in your head], and it’s what you make of it. But the show’s an incredible, crazy place. I’m so lucky to be there.”

From the outside, it’s easy to assume that a person needs to have a screw loose to sign up to work at a place like SNL. But Slowikowska believes that if she can, then anyone with the performance chops can handle the grueling hours and heartbreaking humiliations that come with the job. She’s humble to the point that she insists she only got the arguably hardest-to-book job in comedy on a fluke: “I’m not someone who believes that I’m special or anything like that, I just work really hard and love being creative. Truly anybody can do it, is the way I like to think of it. If you really wanted to, eventually it’ll filter through. I always picture sand and a filter: If someone quits after a commercial audition or something, then that person’s out, then the next person. Eventually it’ll be just you if you just keep going.”

“We’re not saving lives. We are doing comedy, and we need to remember that.”

It’s possible Studio 8H has never before met someone with so little ego. “I think people think your ego grows at a place like that, and I’m sure some people have over time, but mine was the opposite. I was like, ‘How do I maintain my confidence and find myself in a place of so many amazing people?’” Slowikowska says. “I don’t struggle with a big ego, I struggle with not believing in myself enough sometimes. That’s been a challenge of raising it a little more and going, ‘OK, wait, you got this. You deserve to be here. Go for it.’”

By the time the season ended, the four-month hiatus was a welcome reprieve. But when we meet post–Labor Day, Slowikowska is itching to go back. “It’s the perfect amount of time where at the end you’re like, ‘I’m exhausted. What was that?’ And then slowly you’re like, ‘Oh, I miss everyone,’” she says as she sips a hibiscus tea. When I ask her who she’s closest to at work, she names the obvious — her dressing-roommate Jane Wickline and fellow “Fab Five” featured players Ben Marshall, Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, and Kam Patterson — before listing off just about everyone else in the cast. It’s her castmates, she insists, who made sure she survived the legendary pressure cooker.

“You find your friends and camaraderie,” she says. “There’s no better feeling than the friendships I developed with Ben, or Jane, or Tommy, or anyone. I’m holding their hand before we go live, and I’m like, ‘I got you and you got me.’ It’s like finding a life with these friends. We get dinner together, we get lunch together, we go to movies together. It’s all in favor of the show, but then also just life stuff of I don’t want to be there if I don’t have friends there.”

In the land of remote work, it’s hard not to get a little jealous about the way she describes her days at the office: the laughter, the inside jokes, the midtown salad bowls. She even makes the low moments (rejected pitches and cut sketches) sound fun. “Hanging out in Ben and Tommy’s dressing room, throwing the basketball at their plastic hoop while we talk about how we got cut from a sketch. It’s fun, and we make each other laugh, like, ‘Why am I in this monkey outfit that I just got cut in?’ It’s so funny, inherently,” she says. “We’re not saving lives. We are doing comedy, and [we need] to remember that.”

“We’re craving some more sincerity online in general. Irony is what we’re moving away from. Because cringe can be earnest. If cringe is earnest, it’s deserved.”

Not that she hasn’t experienced wins — some big ones — too. “You get something on and you’re like, ‘Hell, yeah, this is awesome,’” she continues. “But then you lose in the same week because someone cuts you from a sketch and you’re like, ‘Right, totally.’ Then you come out even. That’s what the show does, because of all the wins and losses throughout the week. It’s designed that way. If you’re winning one week, then the next week, you’re losing.”

Unless you’re a complete stranger to the TikTok FYP, Season 51 probably wasn’t the first time Slowikowska stepped into your eyeline. After years of auditioning and working odd jobs in Toronto, she moved to New York City at 27 to pursue comedy and quickly got to work posting sketches from her apartment with Chase and Michael Rees. Chase often plays the straight man to Slowikowska’s hard-to-watch characters as they squabble over anything from typical roommate disputes like borrowing each other’s shoes to Slowikowska’s absurdist attempts to get his attention. It was her TikTok repertoire that helped her secure her first audition for the late-night show’s 50th season in 2024, where she made it to the final round. When they called her back to audition the next year, she knew enough to approach the process with a self-assuredness that could only come from having gone through the gauntlet once before, thinking in the back of her mind the whole time, “Why would they call me back unless they wanted me?” Still, she probably couldn’t have predicted that in a year’s time, she would already be well on her way to cementing herself in the 30 Rock hall of fame and have a great rapport with the only other Canadian in the room: Lorne Michaels.

“It’s so great that he knows where I’m from and the culture, and that Canadians are different than Americans in whatever way,” Slowikowska says of the show’s almost-mythical creator and executive producer. “He understands that, and I think he sees me as being very Canadian. I feel seen that he knows where I’m from.”

“Music has been something I knew I was always going to do. I’m having the most fun exercising a new muscle. It feels very good not to have to be funny for a minute.”

Having built her brand off of cringe comedy online, one would expect Slowikowska’s answers to be veiled in layers of irony and sarcasm. Instead, she oozes sincerity, a quality that she expects to cross over into comedy soon. In fact, she sees her casting as emblematic of the changing comedy moment in our culture. “I think we’re craving some more sincerity online in general, whether that be how people look or how you can do whatever you want. Irony, I think, is what we’re moving away from. Because cringe can be earnest. If cringe is earnest, it’s deserved,” she says. “Sincerity is in, I think. And that can live in the cringe space, but it has to be sincere.”

That earnestness shows up in spades in her newly launched music career. On Aug. 26, Slowikowska released “I Don’t Know Why I Said That,” a shimmery bedroom-indie-pop song with a new jack swing flair, under the name Me As A Girl. The video, filmed in New Jersey two days after the song was recorded, sees Slowikowska hiding behind her new pop persona in a Katy Perry “California Gurls”-esque wig and various Snapchat filters as she brings to life a moment of too-real insecurity: “I don’t know what I said, I don’t know why I said that,” she sings. “I don’t know where my head’s at / You know I don’t know why I do what I do / Maybe I’ll die, but baby, I’ll try / It’s late and I’m high, yes, I know I said that.”

Slowikowska’s passion for music has been all over her SNL career thus far: The Season 51 sketch she considers a highlight is “Cousin Planet,” a hyperpop rap that declares all cousins return to a different planet after the holidays; you may have also noticed her in prominent roles in musical sketches with celebrity hosts like Sabrina Carpenter and Connor Storrie.

As Me As A Girl, she already has a handful of songs in the vault ready to go, with more in progress, and she even has a show booked at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn for the week after we met. But, to be clear, Slowikowska has no intention to pivot away from her day job anytime soon. “It’s a passion project that’s just so fun,” she says of the music sideline. “I’m a very creative person who doesn’t really stop, and making music has been something I knew I was always going to do, but I still don’t know where it’s going to go or what it’s going to be. But I’m having the most fun exercising a new muscle. It feels very good not to have to be funny for a minute. It’s a new tool, a new way of expressing myself that’s been very fun. I’m taking it easy.”

If “taking it easy” looks like recording music, filming movies, and posting multiple sketches online every week, then Slowikowska is taking things very easy. Soon, though, she’ll be back to writing with her SNL colleagues all night long, laughing to the point of tears at table read, and getting cut seconds before air. “I’m excited to be tired,” she says, sincerity brimming from her widened eyes.

The last day of New York Fashion Week is always a comedown of sorts. By Day Six or Seven, depending whom you ask, small talk has run out and a week of champagne-fueled nights has wreaked havoc on any REM sleep (not to mention the hangovers). What a pleasant surprise, then, when I arrived on the fifth floor of 495 Broadway for the debut runway show for 6397 — downtown legend Stella Ishii’s 13-year-old line of wardrobe basics — and the ambiance couldn’t have been more jolly. Ishii was standing at the door of her 30-year-old space in Soho to greet longtime friends, clients, and the motley crew of artists and creatives that have made 6397 the unofficial uniform below Canal Street. After more than a decade of these clothes, Spring/Summer 2027 marked a leveling up for what is the most chill and, honestly, New York brand in New York — and it remained, as ever, a family affair.

When I dial in to chat with Ishii and Jennifer Smith, head of sales for 6397, postshow, they both tell me this isn’t by mistake. “We did it on our lookbook budget, and it came together with a lot of people who wanted to support us doing a show,” Smith says. “That, in part, is what you as an audience member felt, because it was a collective effort from so many people for us to make it happen.” Smith’s brother was on lighting, longtime friend Ariella Starkman did the production, and when Ishii reached out to superstylist and previous 6397 collaborator Miyako Bellizzi to collaborate and Bellizzi was available, that’s when they knew a runway made sense. “Why now? Well, why not now? We’ve never done this. We’re more of a low-key brand,” Ishii says. “The conversation was all the reasons why we should do a show. More and more it became ‘Well, why not?’”

Ishii is something of an industry dark horse. After working in Japan with Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons in the ’80s, she founded The News (North-East-West-South) showroom in 2000 to bring emerging, craft-forward brands to multibrand stores. She helped launch the vision of many New York designers at the start of the new millennium, especially in the early days of The Row and Alexander Wang’s careers. (She now counts Grey’s, Visvim, and Common Projects as clients.) In 2013, Ishii was looking for classic skater-style basics she always fell back on, like dark-wash jeans, slip dresses — as she gushes to me: “I have a huge collection of slips and camis over the years. These are foundations and they don’t change over time, and I always like things like that” — and T-shirts with boyish fits. 6397 (the alphanumeric spelling of news) was born, and with a truly contemporary price point and no-fuss sense of style, became a favorite of gallery girls, fashion people, and of course, Ishii herself.

Fast-forward to 2020, and with the pandemic looming large over the industry, Ishii didn’t know what the future of 6397 would be. Turns out she only needed to do a gut check with herself and move forward with her intuition in the driver’s seat. She had always had the idea of hiring designer Lizzie Owens on the back burner. “I thought, ‘If we’re going to continue with this, I’d like it to evolve,’” Ishii says. “We talked about what’s missing from the brand, and what you’re seeing now is really that. I thought, ‘It’s time to knock on Lizzie’s door,’ and I did.” As Owens was transitioning into another role (that of a mom), the synergy once again aligned for her to shift gears in her career and join 6397 as design director.

Since 2021, Owens has brought a design-forward lens to the classic denim, shirting, suiting, and outerwear on offer. Her unique sense of proportion and color has lent itself to sequined barn jackets, Day-Glo-bright cotton layers, and bright corduroy pants and, as Smith says, “bring it to a new place to balance out the pragmatic aspect of 6397 that we always want. Not boring pragmatism, but make useful, comforting clothing and make it exciting.” The last few seasons have seen more expansion in this vein, and the shock of color for Spring 2026 and beyond have naturally led up to the design-forward place of Spring/Summer 2027 — but as Ishii and Smith tell me, everything designed for their first runway show was for market, with zero show-specific pieces. Owens wasn’t sure about a runway show at first, she says via email: “I was initially so intimated planning for a show with such a small team and on such a small budget, but it ended up being so fun! Fashion shows are the optimal way to show clothes and I feel so lucky to have experienced that firsthand.” In a sea of collections with pieces made just for the seven-minute runway, it’s a breath of fresh air to see a 100%-produced collection. Desirability made accessible? Now that’s a novelty in fashion.

If Owens started bringing a designer’s eye and dose of saturation to the brand, then Spring/Summer 2027 might be the most feather-light and concise expression of this progression yet. The classic feeling of gauzy clothing in the dead of a New York summer met with the unavoidable cool of Santa Monica — a place Ishii called home for a stint in the ’90s — and the unhurried moments spent on a beach. In fact, as Smith explains, Bellizzi recently relocated to New York’s Long Beach and spends her mornings taking in the ocean breeze. For the show day, Bellizzi grabbed a few bagfuls of sand and toted them to Soho for another real-life kismet moment of reality meeting the runway. As perfectly said in the show notes: “The collection also responds to the realities of hot weather and city living: how to feel naked and beachy in an urban environment while still feeling confident and chic. When it is hot, the streets are dirty and you are walking everywhere, comfort becomes essential.”

6397 has always been a brand unconcerned with trends and more about how it wants people to feel in its clothes, which is to say, comfortable. The styling, hair, and makeup on the day lent themselves to this well, makeup artist Alex Levy explains: “Because the casting for the show featured extended friends and family of the brand, it was important to me that the beauty enhanced everyone’s features rather than distract with something too directional. I wanted to evoke that newly bronzed skin effect where the complexion is a bit red and flushed, and also incorporated some sand on the feet for a few models as if they had come directly from the beach and onto the runway. It was a nice, cinematic touch to paint the picture of this summer girl on the go.”

When I ask Ishii about muses, there are no A-listers mentioned (although, I must say, Julia Fox and Richie Shazam looked both comfy and delectably mature in the front row) or literary characters rattled off, but instead, she lists off the runway models she enlisted who are also friends, including manager of Dashwood Books Miwa Susuda; artists Alison Peery, Lua Beaulieu, and Emma Kohlmann; filmmaker and photographer Cheryl Dunn; author Yumiko Sakuma; and actor-singer-model Kiko Mizuhara, the latter of whom was all smiles when I dipped backstage to grab pictures of the ladies getting ready. She was brought on by Bellizzi, whom she counts as a friend, and she opened the show in a technical nylon jacket, which parlayed into the breezy looks that continued with the show.

Classic shirting was done in jersey, tucked in to reveal a long skirt rendered in Japonaise Hawaiian print; capes hung over plaid dresses; loose striped ponchos paired with relaxed pants; and boy shorts worn with even more boyish tanks and knits. It was instantly desirable, intuitively styled, with insight from the models leading directly to design and styling choices — a feedback loop we can get behind. “[Casting] is a long process, and they inspire us with their style or with their personality, their sense of humor,” Ishii says. “So something shifts, and it remains and it continues, but that’s life, right? It just continues to evolve that way.”

More than anything, 6397 is directly bringing the streets to the people with its clothing and, with its first runway show, expressing how an elevated occasion like a catwalk doesn’t mean stuffy, unapproachable clothing. The democratic feel of the show, with mismatched furniture serving as seats (mine was what appeared to be a church pew) and the original Beaux-Arts floors still holding strong, lent the day with the most unfussy flair of the week. I, for one, loved watching as friends of friends cheered one another on from their seats — many people forsake chairs and benches for an organized pile of criss-crossed showgoers — and the finale felt less like a proof of concept and more like a celebration.

Smith emphasizes that the future of 6397 will officially include menswear (I already shop the brand, as its unisex-style fit suits me) and stay at its competitive price point: “We really try to be thoughtful about it because we want them to be clothes people buy, and they buy more of. It’s the clothing that you actually wear.” As ever, the main design and merchandising conversations, while spirited, always come down to if someone in the room would wear it. The fact that the room is filled with women of diverse background and life experiences shows in the product.

Ishii is happy that simplicity and clarity of thought have won out the day. Her keen sense of what women actually want to wear — women with jobs who have places to go, trains to catch, and lives to lead — has kept her not only curating the best independent brands with her showroom, but with 6397, continually being in conversation with the people she dresses. As we end our Zoom call, she again stresses that part of all this magic comes from being at the right place and the right time. “I think it was the right thing to do the show for the Spring/Summer season. There’s something bigger than us that just puts things into place. To me, it felt like that happened. It reiterated that it was good we did this. We were supposed to do this.”

Morgan Stewart McGraw knows good clothes, which is why her presence at Paris Fashion Week feels almost like a requirement. She took the opportunity to pop into some shows and also host an intimate dinner with FWRD and Revolve to celebrate the Fall drop at her clothing label, Renggli, because as she says, “Paris is always a good idea.” She took over a cozy private dining room at Lafayette’s in the 8e arrondissement with the best guest list of those in town (she says the right group of people make a good dinner party great) and made sure there were candles lit, French fries being served, and Renggli fashion being worn (NYLON’s own Lauren McCarthy had this one in the bag).

Stewart loves a tequila drink and doesn’t switch up for something more classically French while she’s in town, which is why we love her: The Stewart McGraw you get in Beverly Hills is the same one you get in Paris. And as for what to do when the hangover strikes? “Walk in the sunshine or go to Hermès.” Relatable. Before she got into the weeds of a Parisian early morning at a runway show, though, she took NYLON along for her dinner, where tea was spilled and rigatoni was most definitely eaten without worrying about calories. After what feels like 525,600 runway shows, the Spring/Summer 2027 Fashion Month has come to a close. Starting with Ralph Lauren in New York and ending with Louis Vuitton in Paris, we’ve traversed the world to see new collections, spot our favorite celebrities, and parse out the new trends (more on that in the weeks to come). But, for now, as we nurse our philosophical hangovers and fly Delta One all the way home, we’re taking a lighthearted look at some of our favorite moments from the four fashion capitals.

Freaks won the day both here and abroad, and the more willing a designer was to take a risk, the more likely it was for us to like the show and honor it here with a goofy superlative. We are here to cherish and celebrate those who made headlines, walked the walk and talked the talk, and gave us something to chew on other than a perfectly fine black dress or easygoing suit. We crown a new front-row star, decide on the color of the season, and give you something to (hopefully) laugh at — because at the end of the day, it’s just clothes! See our favorite moments and how we awarded them below.

Most Unusual Front-Row Shirt: Samara Weaving at Valentino

The phrase “Villian Teen” was all over Alessandro Michele’s Resort 2027 collection for Valentino and made us scratch our head (is it a play on Valentino? Is it a Marvel costume-design bid?). Of course Weaving was brave enough to not only wear the scuba-style top, but to Paris Fashion Week, where playing it safe is the name of the game.

Barney Award For Best Use Of Purple: Bottega Veneta

We kept seeing purple pop up in New York, then in London, and by Milan, we knew it was one of the colors of the season. This lilac skirt and aubergine hat from Bottega Veneta, though, takes the cake for the best way to incorporate multiple It shades in one look.

Best Makeup That Will Look Even Better A Day Later: Gucci’s Saturated Lids

The Gucci show twisted prep and street with ease (as is Demna’s signature), and the most fun looks included a huge swipe of monochromatic eyeshadow by makeup artist Sam Visser. We’re partial to this Yves Klein blue, which we can’t wait to try for our next event (or casual Friday, tbh).

The Cynthia Erivo Award For Gravity-Defying Dress: Givenchy by Sarah Burton

Another head-scratcher came in the form of this dress, which immediately had us asking “How is that staying up?” Props to Burton for making metal look so feather-light.

Best Front Row: Saint Laurent

This might not come as a surprise given the brand has won this superlative in seasons past, but when designer Anthony Vaccarello celebrates a decade (and a rumored departure) with a gold colelction and gold chandeliers under a golden, twinkling Eiffel Tower, the girls are bound to show up. And show up they did, from longtime friends of the brand like Zoë Kravitz, Rosé, and Gabbriette to legends like Betty Catroux, Jerry Hall, Catherine Deneuve, and Donatella Versace. It was the see-and-be-seen way to start the week, and the all-black dress code definitely factored into this decision.

The Sharpie Award For Best Use Of Highlighter Neons: Vaquera

Bright hues were all over the runways, but nowhere more convincing than Vaquera during Paris, where it was not only effectively used to shock up a muted color palette in the form of a bow or handbag, but for the finale where designers Patric Dicaprio and Bryn Taubensee turned miles of electric fabric into decadent, straight-up freaky party dresses. It’s silly yet deathly serious fashion, which excites us more than anything else.

Model Of The Season: Mona Tougaard

Tougaard is not new to this, nor did she walk the most shows this season, but she earns top marks here for securing a few closing spots (at The Attico, Fendi, Isabel Marant, and Max Mara) and being chameleonic yet keeping her signature cool-girl attitude alive.

Most Promising Debut: A Letter

We wrote about A Letter as one of the brands to watch this year, and its debut show at London Fashion Week delivered and then some. The deceivingly simple dresses and skirts were expertly draped to add 3D motion and provide ease of movement — hence why the official runway pictures are so kinetic. The clothes are directional yet ultimately super wearable and desirable. That combination will surely have retailers, editors, and It girls clamoring for the designs.

Front-Row Star Of The Season: Nara Smith

You can call her a wife but don’t call her traditional. Smith hasn’t done Fashion Month as fiercely as she did this season, popping out at Calvin Klein Collection in an underwear-band dress, a faux-fur-trimmed skirt at Magda Butrym, in another equally great skirt at Prada, and in a sexy le smoking suit from Saint Laurent. She proved her versatility (and desirability) with her biggest season to date.

Color Combo Of The Season: Turquoise & Army Green

We clocked aqua blue as a must-have summer color, and if you were an early investor, you’re in luck: It’s not going anywhere. This season, though, the oddly pleasing, safari-lite combination of beiges, khakis, and greens lent a welcome contrast to the color. This Celine boot-belt situation was one of our personal favorites, and it also showed up at Collina Strada, Fendi, Loewe, and MM6 Maison Margiela.

The Most Perfectly Imperfect Hair: Prada

In a sea of defined coifs and intricate ‘dos, the Prada show’s hair stood out for its relatability and the way it balanced the prim femininity of the 63 skirts that walked the show. More of this (read: unfussy hair) for 2027.

Best “For Advanced Users Only” Hat: Junya Watanabe

A running joke in TikTok comments on influencers’ video wearing hats says “This hat is not for beginners,” and it’s true: Some hats are not for the faint of heart. The most exciting one we saw all week was at Junya Watanabe, modeled by Ciara, which was a chandelier-cum-tiara that was just plain fun.

Most Genius Casting: Rachel Ojuromi for Chanel

Ojuromi made waves online after taking inspiration from Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel Metiers d’Arts 2025 collection and recreating several looks in the streets of Lagos, Nigeria, eventually catching the attention of Blazy himself. Instead of just admiring her from afar, though, Blazy brought her into his world with a spot in his lineup. She rocked the runway and made it look easy, bringing a taste of Africa and her style to Paris.

If Miu Miu does one thing well, it’s invite women from all corners of the world into its universe. It’s casted Chloë Sevigny and Emma Corrin as runway models, started a literary club, supported female filmmakers, and now, counts one of the most famous livestreamers in the world, Valkyrae. The gamer and podcast host is also a serious fashion fan, and she made her Paris Fashion Week debut with Miu Miu.

On stage, Australian electropop band Parcels are the complete rockstar package: captivating, bouncy, and propulsive. Off stage, they’re just a group of average guys who love Coke Zero, Japanese whiskey, and Geese.

Moments before the indie-pop collective took over Zilker Park with its Daft Punk-level grooves at Austin City Limits on Oct. 4, members Jules Crommelin, Noah Hill, Patrick Hetherington, Louie Swain, and Anatole "Toto" Serret tapped into their “hive mind mentality” by splitting a box of Mike & Ikes and swapping instruments backstage. It’s not exactly their usual preshow routine — concentrated sugar products are a big no-no on their rider — but after their unforgettable performance on the Miller Lite stage, maybe it should be.

Fashion is our passion, and while the runways are of course the main draw of Paris Fashion Week, it doesn’t hurt that the accompanying partying is also in our job descriptions. The Cutting Room Floor Toasts To A Season Of Newness

Recho Omondi of The Cutting Room Floor just penned a one-of-a-kind deal with Patreon, and while the fruits of her labor will be slowly revealed, we know a new season of her cutting-edge (pun intended) fashion and culture podcast is arriving Oct. 7. Before that, though, there’s Paris front rows to conquer, and Omondi and her industry friends kicked things off with an intimate, gossip-heavy dinner at Café de l'Usine.

Festival season 2026 got the unforgettably raucous (and muddy) send off it deserved with Austin City Limits this past weekend, but instead of living in the past, we’re already looking ahead to the future. Primavera Sound announced its lineup for the 2027 installment of the Barcelona-based festival on Oct. 5, and let’s just say the performers are extremely NYLON-coded.

In honor of its 25th year, Primavera Sound 2027 will feature 151 artists (“unequivocally led by female artists,” per a press release) across the three main festival days on June 3-5, plus a free opening day on June 2 and the closing party on June 6. To commemorate the occasion, the festival has called in the help of 15 (!) of your favorite headliners: Doechii, Phoebe Bridgers, Fontaines D.C., Hayley Williams, FKA twigs,Turnstile, Massive Attack, The Chemical Brothers, Robyn, Bad Gyal, Lola Young, Adéla, Caroline Polachek, Prospa, and Skrillex b2b Ninajirachi.

In between headliners, you can also catch a slew of internationally-renowned superstars, including Tinashe, Kim Petras, Underscores, Shygirl, Sophia Stel, Pavement, Esdeekid, Bleachers, JT, Arca, MUNA, Julien Baker, Wallows, Dinosaurs Jr., Chrvches, Akriila, Weyes Blood, DIIV, Ear, Kelsey Lu, and Alemeda — and that’s not even half of the lineup.

The Irish rock band finally announced its North American tour on Oct. 2, just two weeks before the group is scheduled to release their fifth studio album Dopamine Chamber. The 19-show run kicks off on April 23 in Boston, followed by a string of concerts in Philadelphia, Chicago, Vancouver, and Seattle before closing out the first leg in Seattle on May 12. The tour will then pick back up in the fall, with even more shows in Toronto, Nashville, Atlanta, and Queens, New York and a final stop at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.

The first leg of the tour will feature support from Westside Cowboy, and Iceage is set to open for the second half.

If there’s one takeaway from this week’s Soundcheck, it’s that the NYLON team desperately needs to invest in French lessons.

The sexiest fragrances always take you somewhere else entirely with every spray, and Rabanne’s 1 Million Black took actor Felix Mallard to Paris for a few days. The maison forwent a runway show and went all-in on its launch of the sexier, punchier, and slick 1 Million Black with a Paco Club rave at FVTVR that brought out Mallard and more guys ready to give in to the pull of the fragrance — and even take a dip in it.

When Mallard is in Paris, he goes all in. Before raving, dinner was a croque monsieur and escargot at Parisian institution Lapérouse (washed down with champagne, of course). He got some boy glam in his hotel, where he listened to Fela Kuti’s Fela With Ginger Baker Live!, a refreshing answer and one that gives him street cred around NYLON HQ. The dress code for the evening was all black, of course, with a faux-fur-lined leather bomber, slacks, and loafers, as he says: “a relaxed, loose, masculine silhouette perfect for a night at Paco Club.”

Before he snuck into the night, we asked him what his dream day in Paris would be like, and his answer proves not only that he’s an old soul, but that we need to book a trip to the French capital with him ASAP. “Croissant and le cafè by the Seine at dawn, followed by a visit to the Pompidou for the best view in Paris and a heavy dose of modern art. Picnic under the Eiffel Tower before the Museè Rodin. Walk until a random brasserie catches your eye. Stroll along the seine until the sun sets.” While he didn’t have time to cross all these off his bucket list, see how he got down with the indomitable spirit of a Rabanne rave below.

Happy October! The first signs of fall are a delight for me, personally, as I dig up my thin-jacket collection and watch as the trends take shape during Paris Fashion Week. (Fashion Month is almost over, don’t worry.) In between runway shows, there have been excellent red-carpet moments coming from the likes of Dakota Johnson and Florence Pugh — but nobody at the minute is doing it quite like Daisy Edgar-Jones, which you’ll see in my breakdown. I’m over method dressing, and Edgar-Jones and stylist Dani Michelle are finding ways to honor the Austenian codes of fashion without doing the thing I hate most in celebrity dressing, which is hitting references on the nose without adding anything personal to them. Elsewhere in the fashion universe, we’re already thinking about advent calendars (it’s never too early, trust me) and coats to add to our ever-growing wardrobes. See what else caught our eye below.

Give It Up For Daisy Edgar-Jones

As the lead in the latest adaptation of the Austen classic Sense and Sensibility, Edgar-Jones is leaning into the English romanticism expected for all the press appearances, but not going so dowdy or literal with it. The fashion leans youthful, like the mini-skirt and bustier from McQueen, the flouncy purple Chloé mini, and the slimming slips by Armani and Stella McCartney. Chanel Brings Literature Into The Fold

With the Women’s Trust Prize, it’s launching Originators, a first-of-its-kind initiative that will award five female novelists with a grant, mentorship, and an introduction to the literary world at large. The Acne Studios show always brings out some of our favorite Swedes, creatives, and singers (hi, Robyn!), and actress Rain Spencer was in the building this season for her first show with the brand. Her outfit for the occasion was a mini knit vest with a silk midi skirt that had a crushed bow at the waist, giving a girly and calm sense of whimsy to what could be a boring, ladylike outfit. The rest of the day was similarly lowkey. For her pregame playlist, it was just her liked songs on shuffle — “always a gamble” — and a quick lip-liner reapplication before snapping some selfies. How is Judeline commemorating the biggest year of her career? By getting right back in the studio, of course. Even when the 23-year-old Spanish singer is trying to process her whirlwind summer — which she partially chalks up to Mercury retrograde — she’s already thinking about what comes next. Just weeks ago, she secured her first ever entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and her first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart with Karol G’s “BbY Wow,” an R&B-meets-dancehall track she co-wrote and features on alongside Rusowsky. And yet, when we chatted in late August, Judeline (born Lara Fernández Castrelo) had just left her studio session in Madrid in a rush in order to make our call. “I was finishing little things, but I’m done for the day,” she tells NYLON, nearly out of breath.

If you don’t know her name yet, you will soon — along with “BbY Wow,” Judeline co-wrote four songs on Karol G’s new album, No Me Arrepiento de Sentir Tanto, including the opening track “Te Llevas To” and the Oklou-produced “Final Feliz.” She’d received co-signs from artists like Rosalía, Bad Bunny, and J Balvin in the past, but when Karol requested her vocals on “BbY Wow,” Judeline sprinted to the nearest studio in her hometown, which just so happened to be behind a fried-fish shop. Now, she’s just wrapped her first headlining tour after two years on the road. To put her rise to stardom into perspective: In 2024, Judeline played London’s The Lower Third for a room of 250 people, while her final show on Sept. 5, 2026, saw her performing for 26,500 spectators at Plaza Mayor de Valladolid in Spain.

To put a capstone on her whirlwind summer, NYLON chatted with the burgeoning Spanish superstar exclusively about working with Karol G, saying goodbye to tour, and finding inspiration in the culture she missed while on the road.

We’re coming on the tail end of what has been a huge summer for you. Take me through it all. How has it been? What have you been up to? How have you been celebrating?

It has been crazy, honestly. There was this, how do you say, retrograde Mercury? I never heard of it, but for the first time, I searched it because it was affecting me a lot. With this, I had a sad time in the summer. I was very sad, feeling very low, and I didn’t know why. Then out of nowhere, the craziest thing in the world happened. [There’s been] so much up and downs this summer. It started so weird, and now it’s ending in the craziest way. I’m feeling great. It has been like a dream. I can’t believe it.

Has there been a highlight for you?

I’ve been with my friends in Ibiza, and I had a lot of fun, but of course, Karol [G] is the craziest thing this summer.

You’re having a huge moment with the song “BbY Wow” and the album, which you helped work on. How did this collaboration come about?

I was writing for Karol in February. We shared beautiful moments, and I helped her write “BbY Wow.” It was supposed to be a song for her and only her, and the song was so cool when we were doing it in the studio. Then she was about to release the album, and she called me two weeks earlier or something like that, and she was like, “Baby, I think I really want you in the song. I want you and Rusowsky in the song. Let’s do it, please. I need you. I need you. I want this.” I talked to Rusowsky and we were super down. Of course, she's so iconic and so amazing. We did the song in two days. I did my verse, Rusowsky did his, and the song was out a week later.

What was going through your mind when she asked you to be on the song?

I was grateful and surprised. I was about to meet my friend in my hometown in my village, and she FaceTimed me, and she was like, “I need you to go to the studio now.” I was like, “Oh, f*ck. Where do I go to a studio in my hometown? I don’t know a studio here.” I was on vacation, but I found this place in the city. From the outside, it looks like a fried-fish place, but then you go to the back and you open the door and it’s a studio. I recorded my verse there; it was really funny.

The song earned you your first entry onto the Billboard Hot 100. How did that feel?

I don’t know, I think I’m not conscious yet. In my mind, I’m like, “No, I don’t care that much about numbers.” But then when you have the numbers, when these things happen, it feels so good and so rewarding. Both me and Rusowsky, we’ve been working so hard for so long, and it’s very rewarding to be like “This finally happened.”

I’m excited for what is going to come and super grateful for Karol, because I know the amount of doors that are open now for me and all the things that are about to come thanks to her. I’m super, super grateful and excited about the future right now.

Have you been in touch with her since the song has started taking off?

We talked to each other, and she told me that she was so happy to share that with me. We talked and celebrated on WhatsApp. She’s a sweetheart and working with her has been amazing.

Do you get to be in the studio with her while she records? What do your writing sessions with her look like?

We were in Malibu in February. We were there for two days, and it was amazing, really organic. We were there making the ideas from scratch with Tainy, with Rusowsky, with [Andrés Jael Correa] Rios, and we had so much fun. She was recording her verse there. She’s such a good singer. We were doing the lyrics and the melodies together, and it was great vibes. Four of the songs are in the album, so it turned out really cool.

What have you learned from working with Karol?

She’s so professional. She was preparing herself for Coachella during those days, and she was waking up so early, doing all the rehearsals, then coming to the studio. I was like, “Damn.” Only people with that mentality can do that. She is addicted [to working nonstop] and so, so, so professional. I was shocked about the amount of work and discipline she had when she was preparing for Coachella and also doing the songs. It was very, very inspiring.

What are your plans for the rest of the year in terms of concerts and touring?

I’m finishing my tour. I’m having the last show of the tour this week, which I’m very excited about, because I’ve been touring for three [or] four years. With this album, we’ve been doing it for two, almost three years. It has been more than 100 [shows], so I’m tired. I can’t wait to stop the tour, rest, make music, go to the studio, and get inspired. I need that right now. I need to release music and connect with my art and get ready for the next era, which I don’t know what it’s going to be, but I’m going to train right now. I need some training.

How does ending the tour feel? That must be kind of crazy.

It’s kind of sad because it changed so much. We started with little venues, like 300, 700, 900 people. We started like that, and then little by little, we made an arena with 14,000 [people]. The show evolved a lot, and I’ve grown so much. I became an adult during this tour. A lot of things happened. It’s a good vibe, it’s beautiful, but I’m excited for the new era. I’m already feeling like I really need new things and new stuff and get inspired and write and express myself in the studio, which is actually my favorite thing more than performing. I love performing, but I love the studio more.

What have you been working on?

I’m letting myself be free in the studio and be open and just feel what I need to feel and express. I’ve been really open. Right now, it’s important for me to have no pressure for myself and just enjoy art and feel connected to art. I’m trying to watch a lot of movies, listen to a lot of albums that I didn’t have time to listen to. I’m trying to read books, go to museums. I’m really trying to swim in art, literally, all I can to get inspired for this next era. It’s going to take time, but I feel like something changed in me, and that is showing off in the studio.

Besides Karol, you've also received co-signs from major artists like Bad Bunny and Rosalía. What goes through your mind when you get this approval from these huge stars?

It's crazy. I was such a small artist. I was doing music for two years; I had no listeners at all. Then randomly, I was on this playlist on Bad Bunny's profile, and then I was in the Rosalía one. It was huge for me, and it was big, big support for how small I was at that time. You need that respect and that little punch to keep going.

It gave me a lot of opportunities. A lot of producers and people in the industry wanted to help me, and it opened a lot of doors for me. I’m super grateful for [Bad Bunny] and for Rosalía for supporting me when nobody did.

You’re about to close this chapter of your tour, and you’ve reached a new peak of your career. What do you have in store for us in 2027?

Oh, my God, I don’t know. This is crazy, of course, but I just take it as the beginning of what I want to do. I really want to eat life right now and do my work as good as I can do it. I try to bring the best songs and art I can and get better every day, I guess.

On Sept. 30, the Irish rock band released their latest single “Tongue,” the second offering from their forthcoming album Dopamine Chamber (out Oct. 16). In the song, lead singer Grian Chatten laments about a lover whose harsh words are so painfully addictive, it will literally ruin your life. “Oh, she has a tongue to take apart your life,” he sings on the hook, a plea for help that’s only underscored by the repeated refrain, “More abuse than an Adderall.”

If the cold, cavernous track sends shivers down your spine, just know that was intentional, as guitarist Carlos O’Connell pushed Chatten’s voice through a sampler and bassist Conor Deegan used a manipulating tape speed to create the slouchy bass sound.

The John Angus Stewart-directed video is just as frigid and radioactive as the song itself, and sees the group filming themselves over one of New York’s many bridges during a trip to the city.

The first morning of Paris Fashion Week is like Christmas morning for the fashion set. Even though many editors and creators have been on the road since New York, if the mood is right and the sun is out in the French capital, there is a bright-eyed-bushy-tailed feeling to the proceedings. Dior always falls on that fateful afternoon, and one of our picks for the most fashionable ladies of 2026, Izzi Allain (aka Isabelle Allain, aka Izzipoopi), was there to take it all in. It was a milestone moment for Allain, who counted Jonathan Anderson’s Spring/Summer 2027 womenswear show as her first Dior runway experience. She’s previously donned a few of Anderson’s creations — this summer, she wore two ready-to-wear looks for a luxury Belmond train ride and wedding — and made Dior’s lilypad shoes feel totally normal for an Italian train dinner.

Her ability to make the insane feel regular made her a TikTok phenom, but her excellent eye for contemporary style keeps us coming back. Her morning, for all the nutty (pun intended) fashion that lied ahead, was chill. She listened to Olivia Dean and Jack Johnson, took three espresso shots, and otherwise kept her cool — well, for the most part (Dior’s show spaces are famously a bit warm due to the 2 p.m. light). As for how she’s surviving the month-long carousel around major shows and late nights? It’s all about skiping the latter. “I love to go to bed early and be boring. I eat well and take care of myself to really be able to be present and enjoy the shows!” See what she packed for a walnut-coded day with Dior, and how she got ready, below.

Understanding your hair and its unique needs can feel like a Sisyphean task, with factors like texture, density, color, and more shaping what you do — and don’t — need for the healthy, radiant hair of your dreams. But even the most well-versed beauty aficionados often overlook one major component: scalp care.

If you’ve ever felt frustrated that your high-end, strand-saving products still don’t keep you from getting itchy and flaky, it may be time to take a fine-tooth comb and look a little deeper. You’ve likely heard the term dermatitis used for the skin, but did you know your scalp's delicate microbiome can face the same struggles? If you’re at your wits' end with a scalp that won’t calm down, a chronic skin condition could be at the crux of your issues. Not to fear, though. Plenty of routine switches and small daily tweaks can ease scalp stress.

Ahead, dermatologists, trichologists, and scalp experts explain seborrheic dermatitis, how to recognize the symptoms, and the steps you can take to help your scalp feel calmer.

What Is Seborrheic Dermatitis?

“Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory condition that results in red, flaky areas especially on the scalp, eyebrows, and around the nose,” explains board-certified dermatologist Dr. Dawn Queen.

Board-certified dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon Dr. Joel Schlessinger adds that seborrheic dermatitis is essentially the medical term for dandruff of the scalp, but can occur anywhere there is a high concentration of oil glands. “Seborrheic dermatitis is caused by an overgrowth of the Malassezia yeast that normally lives on the skin,” Joel Schlessinger says. “It causes flaking, irritation, itching, and dry skin, and can even cause hair loss if it goes on for a long time. Most people don’t know that it can also affect the face, in particular the eyebrows and creases around the nose where there is more oil buildup.”

While seborrheic dermatitis can present on the scalp, face, and body, understanding how it shows up on the head is important to navigating your journey to a calm, healthy scalp. Board-certified dermatologist and Mohs surgeon (and son of Dr. Joel Schlessinger) Dr. Daniel Schlessinger explains that “on the scalp, seborrheic dermatitis usually looks like dry, flaking patches.” In severe forms, “you might get thick, silvery clumps of flakes, called tinea amiantacea, after the Latin name for asbestos.” Queen also notes that in darker skin types, seborrheic dermatitis flare-ups may appear as “hypopigmented flaky patches rather than red ones.”

Where Does Seborrheic Dermatitis Come From?

There’s nothing more confusing and frustrating than when your skin starts changing out of nowhere, but all of our experts confirm that seborrheic dermatitis can arise or flare up at any time. “Seborrheic dermatitis can occur at any age and can appear during adulthood for the first time, even if someone has never had it before,” says Queen. “It tends to have a relapsing course with periods of flares and periods of quiescence,” with triggers that range from cold or dry weather, skin barrier disruption, illness, and stress.

“In many cases there isn’t one identifiable trigger, and it can come on seemingly out of nowhere,” she says. Joel Schlessinger explains that the well-known infant phenomenon of “cradle cap” is actually a classic case of seborrheic dermatitis.

Treating Seborrheic Dermatitis: Routine Tweaks to Soothe a Stressed Scalp

If it sounds like seborrheic dermatitis might be what you’re dealing with, there are tons of easy, practical lifestyle changes you can make to help manage your symptoms. To start, board-certified trichologist and founder of Caspara Hair Preservation Studio, Shab Caspara recommends not going too long between wash days. “Stretching time between washes lets oil and yeast build up, and that buildup leads to inflammation,” she says. “For most people, washing every one to two days makes a big difference.” Caspara also recommends turning down the temperature when you do wash. “Hot water strips the scalp's natural barrier and can disrupt its microbiome, which makes an already-reactive scalp act out even more,” she says. “Lukewarm water is your friend.”

For board-certified trichologist and cosmetologist Aga Tompkins, the best thing you can do for seborrheic dermatitis on the scalp is stop leaving your scalp out of your beauty routine. “Your scalp is skin, and it needs its own routine,” she says. “Avoid aggressively scratching or picking at flakes,” Tompkins and Caspara both urge clients. “It can feel satisfying in the moment, but damaging an already irritated skin barrier can create more inflammation.”

Tompkins also recommends taking a closer look at the ingredients in your scalp-care routine, just as you would for your skin care. “When the goal is maintaining a healthy scalp environment, I like to see ingredients that support hydration, the skin barrier, oil balance, and gentle removal of buildup,” she explains. “For example, niacinamide is commonly used in scalp-care formulas to support the skin barrier and help with oil balance, while panthenol and aloe can support hydration. Ingredients like lactic acid can provide gentle exfoliation to help loosen excess buildup when appropriate, and botanical ingredients such as green tea, jojoba, and tea tree are also commonly found in scalp-care formulas focused on maintaining a balanced environment.”

Another key component of a healthy scalp, Caspara says, is avoiding letting your scalp stay damp. Whether after a shower or a workout, make sure to dry your scalp completely to avoid creating a breeding ground for yeast and buildup. Caspara also emphasizes a holistic approach to scalp health. “Diets high in sugar and alcohol can increase oil production and fuel inflammation, which gives the yeast more to feed on,” she says. “Cutting back, along with managing stress and getting good sleep, can noticeably reduce flares.”-

All in all, giving your scalp the attention it deserves can make the biggest difference in pursuit of itch- and flake-free hair, but don’t beat yourself up if your scalp isn’t “perfect” after making these tweaks. Even so, Tompkins assures that a healthy scalp is not necessarily a completely flake-free scalp. “It is a scalp with an intact barrier, minimal inflammation, and an environment that is being appropriately managed for that individual,” she says.

At the same time, Tompkins emphasizes the importance of not letting symptoms go undiagnosed for too long. If symptoms continue despite making routine changes, that is the point where she recommends getting an accurate diagnosis from a dermatologist or qualified scalp professional. “Do not normalize a scalp that is persistently itchy, painful, burning, excessively flaky, or inflamed,” Tompkins says. “Not every flaky scalp is seborrheic dermatitis, and getting the diagnosis right is the first step toward managing it appropriately.”

Enough songs about love. We need more songs about love triangles.

Lucky for us, Belgian pop star Angèle is ever so graciously contributing to the canon with her new single “Love Triangle,” out now. Of course, it takes three to tango in a situation like this, so naturally the singer has tapped the help of Caroline Polacheck and SebastiAn to bring the propulsive electronic song to life.

A good chunk of the lyrics are in French (a language that, admittedly, we do not speak here at NYLON HQ), but there’s one line that we did catch: “Nothing freaks me out like a love triangle.” Says all there is to say, really.

“The song plays with the boundary between reality and fantasy. You never completely know whether what is happening is actually being lived or simply imagined,” Angèle shared in a press release. “SebastiAn’s presence allows the desire to become almost instinctive, something that moves forward like an obsession. And Caroline’s voice, both airy and powerful, brings something almost supernatural to the music. The triangle exists musically too: three worlds, three voices, three sensibilities coming together.”

“Love Triangle” comes as the final offering from Angèle’s upcoming album Instinct (out Oct. 16), and is available to stream now.

They say three’s a trend, and sometimes a trio of silhouettes or styles takes weeks to permeate culture. In the case of one particular style of shoes in 2026, it took about 24 hours. A handful of the sexy, smartly dressed girls we regularly tap in with all wore teetering platform pumps in quick succession, confirming what we already suspected: The platform heel is officially making a comeback.

For her VMAs performance, Charli xcx threw on a pair of croc-embossed heels with a solid five-inch vertical; and for street-style appearances in Paris, Rosalía and Gabbriette both added some height with peep-toe pumps. Rosalía’s vintage Yves Saint Laurent pair are the classic Tribtoo pump, which were created by then-designer Stefano Pilati in late 2009 and defined a moment in fashion; that is, the 2010s, when party-girl style was all about sky-high heels, itty-bitty dresses, smoky eyes, and ripped tights. (You can just picture Mischa Barton, the Olsen twins, or Lindsay Lohan in paparazzi pictures with that description, no?) Almost 20 years later, in the words of Charli herself, the fashion world is taking us back to heaven (figuratively) like it’s 2007.

It’s still early days of the trend, and we still have eight more days of Paris Fashion Week to get through, the Spring/Summer 2027 runways are already pointing towards a more precariously balanced future. Nicola Brognano at 7 For All Mankind was one of the few to show the platform pump for Fall/Winter 2026 (Charli has worn them several times already, including at the VMAs), and this season, he doubled down on his sleazy girl aesthetic and sent out even more colorful options for the warmer months to come. McQueen, The Attico, and Moschino all did party dressing with a markedly higher lift in their shoes than usual, and even quirky king Thom Browne couldn’t resist glamming up a towering pair of heels.

Not everything that glitters is gold, and not every pair of shoes that walks a runway is sure to make it into our wardrobes, but with a one-two-three It Girl endorsement and a significant amount of sightings on the current Fashion-Month runways, we’re betting big on the infamously ankle-breaking platform. Tribtoos are pretty inexpensive on secondhand retail sites right now, so grab a pair before they’re everywhere again.

Milan Fashion Week and Armani go together like cannolis and ricotta cheese, focaccia and olive oil, and pretty much any other combination of supremely Italian goods you can think of. Though a Canadian herself, Miku Martineau fit right in at the luxury fashion house’s Spring/Summer 2027 presentation on Sept. 27 — and no, it’s not because she had pasta for dinner.

The actress and star of the new Netflix original series Crew Girl attended the show in head-to-toe Armani (or should we say, face-to-foot), thanks to her “glowy natural” glam, which she achieved with products like Armani Beauty’s Dolci Blush and Prisma Glass Lip Gloss. The pregame playlist included a mix of The Marías and classic Japanese pop songs, a fitting combination given her look for the evening was a moody-yet-flirty LBD. Once the ensemble came together, the 22-year-old tossed her beauty must-haves, an Armani chocolate, and a pair of shades into her bag and off to Via Bergognone she went.

The people begging for summer to be over (namely, me) are overjoyed to test-drive our most recent outerwear purchases — for me, that’s a vintage leather jacket — and dip into our fuzzy-boot collection again. Milan Fashion Week kicked off with an electric Prada show that skirted into our hearts with easy-to-digest looks all surrounding the humble skirt. Choose Your Prada-Skirt Fighter

Prada’s Spring/Summer 2027 was the skirtiest collection of all time. 63 looks, 63 skirts, nary a pant or short in sight. Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada offered all manner of the traditionally Italian (and oh-so Prada) garment, with options from intricately embellished floral pieces to gossamer double-layered girly versions. There were Velcro-adhered skirts, giant-snap-finished skirts, giant wrap skirts held up with a model’s touch, and ugly-patterned skirts. Oh, and the bra tops, tiny shoulder bags, and perforated heels were also ultra-desirable. It was far from a conceptual collection, but immediately scratched a part of my brain craving direct, urgent, and fresh fashion. Pair your next skirt with a bra top that has a bag secured onto it, or pick a chunky leather jacket to make a man out of a flouncy floral skirt.

The latest in its extensive 2026 marketing moment celebrates the humble Barn Jacket, which gets its shine on 160 (!!!) personalities across the arts and media. Who Said Independent Retail Was Dead?

Every time a new venture-capital coffee chain opens, a part of the old fabric of a city dies. But all hope is not lost: Two boutiques in Toronto and San Francisco are proving multibrand stores aren’t going anywhere. Absolutely Fabrics, founded in 2023 by Kaelen Haworth, opened its second location in Toronto’s Summerhill neighborhood and features striking minimalist design and the best buy in the city (country?) where you can find brands you know and some you don’t. Over on the West Coast, Sherri McMullen of McMullen is also opening her second location in San Francisco’s bustling Union Square neighborhood. Expect the same expertly curated selection of emerging designers with a distinctly Californian, feminine touch.

In the social media economy, going to a concert is basically worth its weight in gold. An obligatory Instagram story ‘fit pic, a barricade selfie, a couple clips of your favorite songs, and a sweet send-off in your new merch will have you racking up likes, reactions, and replies faster than your average life update, but go to a no-phones concert, and what are you left with? That was the conundrum social-media obsessed fans were faced with while attending Phoebe Bridgers’ Lost Tour — until Barclays Center found the answer.

The “Scott Street” singer brought her device-free, planetarium-inspired experience to Brooklyn for three nights last weekend. As transformative and rapturous as it was, I hesitate to call it “unforgettable” due to the fact that I have the memory of a sloth. Thankfully, Barclays Center sent me home with something even better than a video taken on my busted iPhone 13: my very own aura reading.

While superfans were queuing outside the venue, the Barclays Center team took me to the underbelly of the arena, where the Brooklyn-based aura photography company AuraCool had set up camp specially for Bridgers’ team and I. (Much like the show itself, the experience was phone-free, so you’ll just have to trust my word on this.) For the uninitiated, aura readings require each subject to sit in front of a black backdrop and rest their hands on a metal plate while a photographer snaps a Polaroid. The photo then develops with an array of colors, with each hue representing aspects of one’s energy. The final product is your “aura,” as it were.

My photo came out like a work of art: my heart and throat chakras were highlighted in yellow, my head flanked by bits of white, and a halo of blue, green, and pink were displayed above my head like a rainbow. Though the photo came with its own color key — blue means expression, indigo means wisdom, red means passion, etc. — a member of the AuraCool team also provided me with an in-depth reading, and boy, did it resonate.

“You are on the tail end of a transformation,” the reader began. “There's been a lot of healing work that you've been doing. Obviously healing is not linear, so you're going to have good days and bad days, particularly around the heart space and particularly around throat chakra. So speaking up for yourself, boundaries, second guessing things, stuff like that.”

“I feel like for you in particular, you are an excellent communicator,” she continued. “A lot of these tests when it comes to the healing that you've done is going to be communication. So it's a test on your boundaries, a test on standing firm on those boundaries, a test on showing up in spaces where maybe you felt small in the past and making your presence known.” I wouldn’t call myself an “excellent communicator” in the traditional sense, but considering I write for a living, it makes sense why she picked up on that in my reading, and why there’s still room for improvement. Yes, advocating for yourself is easier said than done, but knowing I’ve got great opportunities waiting for me on the other side is certainly a strong incentive.

If there’s one thing I can take away from my reading, it’s that I need to be kinder to myself through periods of healing. “I always like to say, ‘Just because you take two steps back, it doesn't take you three years back.’” Period.

Being a pretty woo-woo person myself, it wasn’t too hard for me to buy into the reading. But hey, sometimes all it takes is a stranger with a camera to say what you’ve been thinking for years to inspire a change of heart.

Through my back-of-house tour, I was also able to get a glimpse of the special cake the Barclays Center team had made for Bridgers, as well as the Lost Tour-branded Carhartt jackets they had made for her team. And because not every guest was able to get the backstage experience, the venue made sure to create moments that everyone could enjoy, too. Each night, Barclays Center gave out three custom tarot cards inspired by Bridgers’ music, for a total of nine collectible cards (I pulled The Sun card — if any tarot readers want to get in touch about what that means, LMK), and set up a photo booth inside the venue as a way for fans to get the shot at the phoneless concert.

The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards have come and gone, and I, for one, am happy it’s over. To be fair, there were highlights: Madonna bringing out Sabrina Carpenter and Charli xcx was a gay man’s fever dream and the best way to open the show, and people like PinkPantheress and Sienna Spiro leaving with hardware made me happy. But in the fashion department, there was a lot left to be desired, and made me question when people stopped having fun with getting dressed.

It would be almost insulting to go over the sartorial history of the VMAs for you, dear reader, but suffice it to say that since its inception in 1984, the ceremony has been irreverent, in-your-face, bawdy, and a place for celebrities to let their hair down. In its almost 40 years of existence, the VMAs red carpet has seen red meat as a dress, a fully sequined nipple cover, a pink fuzzy hat that’s been recreated hundreds of times, and two-inch-long denim skirts that surely kick-started religious furor. It’s meant to be a wild night of celebrating music videos, culture at large, and the fashion is meant to be casual, fun, campy, and silly. So why, in 2026, are celebrities wearing red-carpet gowns suited for the Golden Globes or the Grammys?

There are a few reasons I can point to. The viciousness of online comments can lead people to play it safe, lest they get meme-ified to the point of no return, and wearing a basic floor-length metallic dress can be a surefire way to fly under the radar. Stylist Ron Hartleben, who works with Tyla and Camila Cabello, agrees: “Everyone is so concerned with what the Internet will say and how they’ll be picked apart. I think real stylists need to throw more caution to the wind and start making moments again versus the safe, ‘nice’ option that may get them favors with a big brand or PR firm. It’s just fashion!” The nonstop global press machine also makes it hard to stand out, and there are 500 events for every 5,000 stars making the rounds. Maybe, in a word, everyone is tired and running out of ideas. I, too, am tired, of those not willing to step outside the box.

To be fair, there were a few girls at this year’s ceremony willing to break the rules and show a little crack (literally). Tyla pulled up to introduce Lisa’s performance in fresh-off-the-runway Mowalola, with a waistline dipping just so to show off her assets. She paired it with a turquoise snakeskin choker, a Chopard watch on her ankle (because why the hell not), and snakeskin Le Silla pumps that could injure someone if thrown correctly. It was pure sex, a little campy, and yes, absolutely fun.

Charli xcx also teased a bit of crack in custom Saint Laurent that showed off her body and upped the sex factor where others hid away under tiers of tulle. When she popped up on stage with Madonna to sing “Danceteria Afterhours,” she kept the ass-forward fun going in a re-creation of a Dsquared Spring/Summer 2004 look that was cheeky in all the right places. And, best of all, to present Madonna with the Best Dance VMA, she wore a simple henley shirt and blue jeans — no fussiness needed to enjoy the show and take the stage with her bestie Troye Sivan.

“I think we are in a famine of fun and excitement when it comes to celebrity dressing,” Hartleben says. “I grew up in the days of Diana Ross slapping Lil Kim’s pasty, Rose McGowan being next to naked holding hands with Marilyn Manson, and Pam Anderson wearing a hat twice the size of her. This kind of risk-taking and nonsensical styling used to be what the VMAs were all about.” The lesson to be gleaned from all this is that fashion isn’t supposed to be so serious all the time. Playing it safe, ironically, was an easy way to not only piss me off last night, but miss an opportunity to enjoy one’s self — and even fail. At this point, with thousands of carpets and custom looks flying around the world, I’d rather see someone take a risk and flop than show up in yet another perfectly acceptable sequined dress. Life is too short — and it’s the god-d*mn VMAs.

The music industry has its annual tentpole events that bring out everyone from the upstarts to certified legends. The early spring always means the Grammys, and the start of fall always means the MTV Video Music Awards. This year, the VMAs are returning to Los Angeles for the first time since 2017, making it a shorter commute for nominees like Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter, and bringing East Coast talent like nominees Geese across the country for what will hopefully be more unadulterated fun. Fun is the name of the name inside the ceremony and on the red carpet before the stars even step foot inside. So who can we expect to see?

Grande is nominated eight times over, while Carpenter has nine; Madonna, with her unexpectedly major Confessions II album, has a career-high 13 noms. Elsewhere, friends of NYLON like Charli xcx, Sienna Spiro, Sombr, PinkPantheress, and Olivia Dean have earned nods, and performances are coming from most of the nominees I just named, plus a Dolly Parton tribute from Kacey Musgraves (excellent job, showrunners). As far as the red carpet goes, the VMAs are the place to experiment, pull a gag with a never-before-seen archival look, or wear as little as possible in the name of musical excellence. Happy day 571 of September! Since Labor Day, we’ve partied with the best of them, listened to enough new music to keep us occupied until 2027, and sat front-row with the style stars we know, love, and put on our covers. After a whirlwind New York and pit stop in London, it’s time for the Italians to show us how it’s done in Milan. What is typically a more subdued week with the greats showing up like the Pradas, Guccis, and Fendis, there is some exciting change happening in the great fashion capital.

This season, Glenn Martens will present his final collection as creative director at Diesel, Versace will not show (designer Pieter Mulier will present his first collection at the helm of the brand in 2027), and the Sunnei boys (Loris Messina and Simone Rizzo) will debut their first runway as the new designers at Moschino. Dario Vitale also just landed a major role at Emporio Armani, but we’ll have to wait another season to cash in on that promising announcement. In the meanwhile, expect to see lots of our faves turn up to support Martens and more, plus the usual suspects at Ferragamo, Bottega Veneta, and Marni. Ah, the getting-ready playlist; a sacred part of the pregame. The tracks you listen to while hyping yourself up before attempting a cat eye say a lot about you, but on the nights when you can’t figure out what to wear, the last thing you want to do is make more decisions. Is it a Madonna night or a Kylie night? Are we feeling more Y2K or indie sleaze? How much Dua Lipa is too much Dua Lipa? Wonder no more, folks, because e.l.f. Cosmetics has just the solution.

Following the success of the beauty brand’s 2024 debut album, e.l.f. Cosmetics has just dropped its second original album, Mirror Mix. Blending pop, R&B, Latin, and rock, the company tapped seven rising artists for the project: Nezza, Brasko, Mamii, Sadie Rose Van, Hello Sister, Joaquina, and WNBA star-turned-rapper Flau’jae Johnson.

A large portion of the project was born from a three-day songwriting camp, where five of the album artists communed with established songwriters and producers to produce creative new works for Mirror Mix. Of the 22 songs written, five were ultimately selected for the album.

To celebrate its release, all seven artists will make an appearance at Genius’ Open Mic in Los Angeles on Sept. 30. Better start learning the lyrics now.

As a shopping editor, and someone who stays active despite a desk job, I’m in a somewhat co-dependent relationship with my activewear, wearing it from studio classes to dog playdates to last-minute dinner plans. So when I got the chance to try out pieces from Athleta’s new Featherweight Satin Collection, I was curious to see if the sleek line could handle my real-life wear and tear. I tested the collection over the course of a typical week, putting it through my personal daily gauntlet: sweat, dangerously full cocktail glasses, and a truly unfathomable amount of dog hair. Cardio In 88-Degree LA Heat

First up, I decided to see how the Featherweight Satin Ruched Run Short would fare in Los Angeles’ record-breaking humid summer, so off to the park for some cardio it was. Right off the bat, I loved how I could adjust the side ties to play with the silhouette and show a little more or less leg. The cut was relaxed and comfortable, which added to the overall breathability as I ran.

And although I worked up a particularly unglamorous sweat on that 88-degree day, the shorts did not. At most, I saw some slight dampness on the standard flexion areas, all of which dried in a matter of minutes. I loved the juxtaposition of the retro-chic design and the practical features: The pockets were sufficiently roomy, and I was delighted to discover a secret zipped pocket hidden on the right side, perfect for storing a card or ID to ensure it won’t bounce out mid-jog. Admittedly, I was dubious about how wrinkle resistant satin could really be, but after a 45-minute run, I could barely tell that they’d been put through their paces.

Daily Dog Walk

The next day, I reached for what may well be my favorite piece in the collection: the Featherweight Satin Pant, which I wore in a petite length. In the late afternoon, I usually take my dog on a long walk to ensure she’s adequately tired out after her day of following me from room to room and barking at delivery drivers. I slipped on these silky pants and could practically hear my old sweats let out a deathbed gasp. There’s no dignified way to say it — I just felt cool in them.

At first I worried they might feel too dressy for everyday tasks, but I paired them with a casual knit crop, and their sophisticated, wide-leg silhouette felt balanced. The zippered pockets expertly fit my phone and some dog treats, while the adjustable waistband let me customize the fit. And while Athleta doesn’t advertise this as a major selling point (maybe they should), these pants seriously repel dog hair. I gave my notoriously sheddy dog a generous couch snuggle and compared these pants to my standard leggings. The satin pants remained immaculate, the leggings were a fur trap.

WFH & Post-Work Cocktails

My next challenge? Dress for a day at the office, which in my case is just down the hall. I paired two pieces from the collection — the Featherweight Satin Tank and the aforementioned Satin Pant — together to see how they worked as an ensemble. The result was a polished, relaxed look that felt as comfortable as my go-to loungewear without looking overly matchy-matchy.

The scoop-neck tank made for the perfect warm-weather video call outfit — neutral and elevated with clean lines. The fit was body-skimming but not clingy, which added to the overall refined vibe. I even took the ‘fit for a spin on my makeshift treadmill desk, and it held up expertly to my mid-day physical activity break, remaining wrinkle free.

To cap off my week clad in satin, I took my new look out for a drink with my husband. I styled the satin tank with some high-waisted denim, layered on some chunky bangles, and paired the whole look with a bold, sculptural clutch. The tank, in all its effortless simplicity, made for the perfect blank canvas. I was especially impressed that after wearing this top all day it still looked fresh and crisp by the time happy hour ended.

Final Thoughts: Satin Deserves A Spot In Your Closet

I confess I had my concerns that satin wouldn’t make for a particularly practical wardrobe staple, but at every turn the Featherweight Satin Collection proved that it was as durable and comfortable as my tried-and-true workout wear – but with way more versatility. And since I’m 5-foot-1, the adjustable features peppered throughout the collection proved to be especially petite-friendly. Notably, the Featherweight Satin Jacket’s bungee cords at the bottom allowed me to create a cinched look that actually hit at my natural waist.

The best part? I felt laid-back yet pulled together all week — whether breaking a sweat or rushing to file a story. After one week of going about my routine, it was clear — Featherweight Satin was the secret performance fabric my wardrobe had been missing.

Last weekend, the DJ and producer brought his Experts Only Festival to New York City for a second year, where more than 60K fans communed on Randall’s Island to experience GRiZ’s soulful electronics, Subtronics’ thumping bass, Will Clarke’s euphoric house music, and Jackie Hollander’s atmospheric beats live. When they weren’t actively raving, attendees of the two-day affair were either fueling up on quesadillas and shawarma, exchanging IG handles with strangers in the porta potty line, or strutting through the festival grounds to get a candid ‘fit pic. In 2026, an easy way to capture eyes is by leaning into nostalgia. We are in peak reboot/re-edition/relaunch culture, with references to Y2K fashion outnumbering new ideas on the runway. The 2010s have also been a touchpoint of late, and while the Valentino Spike bag has been in stores and available since its launch in 2016, it just got a design refresh by designer Alessandro Michele — and an A-list endorsement from Dakota Johnson.

Johnson is a tried and true Michele stan, staying loyal to the designer through his tenures both at Gucci and at Valentino. She attended Vogue World: Milano with Michele wearing a Valentino Fall/Winter 2026 runway dress, peep-toe pumps with deliciously romantic bows, and, yes, a black Spike bag that feels both fresh and also nostalgic.

A bit of history: After the Rockstud captured the footwear closets of downtown girls and starlets alike in the early 2010s, the Spike bag also made waves at the same time by juxtaposing soft leather with sturdy metal spikes that provide a gothic edge to the neat, essentials-only-sized purse. The streets took to it instantly, making it another essential part of every 2010s club rats’ outfits, and did numbers for the brand.

For 2026, Michele elongated the shape a bit and chose an even softer leather to up the tough-sweet ante. There are also embellished and multicolor versions for your fancy.
